Setting up Mobile Home syncing issues

I'm setting up laptops with Profile Manager and using mobile homes. When I go to sync the home, it says it successful but the date is 12/31/01 7:03pm. The date and time are correct on the laptop and server.

Server 10.7.4, clients are 10.7.4

Here are my steps:

  • Image laptop
  • Create user in Server.app
  • Add user to a workgroup
  • In Profile Manager, add computer to computer group
  • In Profile Manager, add device to user
  • As admin on laptop, bind computer to server address in Users & Groups pref pane. (Profile Manager user does not exist in here yet)
  • Logout
  • Login as Profile Manager user through network (not a local user at this point), make admin to machine (now showing up in Users & Groups). Restart.
  • Login as user and create Moble Home.

This is where I get varying results. Sometimes it's successful (though still with the wrong date of backup). Sometimes it's successful and logs me out as the user, then the user can't login info about 20 seconds, even though it is a local account.

Is there a problem that the network Profile Manager user is not created by me on the local machine by hand, or is it okay to count on a network login to create it? Could that even be remotely related to the date issue with Mobile Home syncing?

Don't use Profile Manager to set up Mobile Accounts.

Yes, I know there is a Mobility tab in Profile Manager, and it stands to reason if it's there you should be able to use it. But the reality is unfortunately different, it just doesn't work right. I've even had an Apple Enterprise rep tell me not to use Profile Manager for setting up Mobile accounts.

Just use Workgroup Manager to do it. It works perfectly, exactly like it should.

I'm not sure why files aren't syncing though. The process looks like it works, but the last sync date still says 12/31/01 7:03PM.

I have my suspicions.
