osx 10.8.1 mountain lion crash

I have a unibody macbook (2009 or 2010) that I upgraded to Mountain Lion and now it crashes frequently. I can be running the web browser or something more demanding but when I close my laptop and walk away my problems occur. It seems that the crash is occuring only after I move the computer. I can't do a fresh install because this is a school computer (i'm a computer proctor at an elementary school) and it's attached to an Active Directory system for backups. Please help.

MacBook, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.1)

Regret your circumstance, and I don't have an explanantion or a fix; however, I feared such a fault and decided not to upgrade my unibody to MtnLion. I decided not to upgrade to MtnLion because it appearedto me that the unibody system albeit an acceptable for an upgrade perhaps was a borderline platform for the upgrade and might straining the system. Moreover, I apprecaite the stablity of Snow Leopard, and don't perceive the personal need of an upgrade now.

I may be mistaken in this assessment, hence I'd appreciate any criticism of my judgment on this matter: Does MtnLion stain unibody system resources?

Boy do I ever hear you. I am in the midst of a nightmare. I upgraded and my computer is crashing 4 or 5 times a day. Usually while I am right in the middle of working on something. This is worse than any PC I owned in the early 90's when I switched to Apple. I use my Macbook Pro for work so not sure exactly what to do. I do have a backup directly before I bought the Mountain Lion Update I guess I will have to switch back. I guess I will be out my $14.95 though as I wouldn't even know where to begin to get a refund from Apple. This Company is getting way to large for my liking now.

I did a fresh install of OSX Mountain Lion. That with the update from 10.8.2 all problems are solved except for my audio issue. It seems like my driver has an issue with working all the time. The sound sometimes doesn't work when I start up the computer. I have to temporarily fix it by opening Activity Monitor and Quiting "coreaduio". That seems to fix it until a random restart later in the week (or the next day).

No I have not tried that. Anything is worth a try my computer is consistently crashing at least 10 times a day now. I grabbed my last crash report if this makes sense to anyone....

Well I finally got fed up with my computer crashing 10 times a day so I completely wiped it out and started from scratch. I basically spent the whole day doing this yesterday. About 5 minutes after I started up my fresh new copy of Mountain Lion it crashed. Yikes. Does anyone know of a specific problem with running Mountain Lion on my Mac (Note that I was also having problems with Leopard as well but it wasn't crashing)...

Could this just be a Hardrive problem? I plan to go to the Apple store to have them look at this but I am reluctant to spend anymore money on Apples. This is my 3rd Apple in 4 years. My last Macbook Pro that I bought brand new completely failed after a year and half and was unrecoverable so I bought this one and I am having the same problem. This makes no sense with the fresh install because there are no remnants left of the old computer. Wow it is getting really tough to stay loyal to Apple.

I feel your pain. I'm sure you probably have, but I shall ask if before you installed ML have you:

1. Updated all software and apps, and check which are not compatable with ML?

2. Disk Utility>Verify and Repair Permsiions, and > (using USB hard disk) Repair Disk?

3. Download with a cable NOT wifi?

4. After start-up allow 'puter to idle and run its indexing program for at least a couple of hours before launching programs and opening them one at a time and see if they need ML updating?

Myself, I was "wanting" not necessarily needing to upgrae to ML. My MB Unibody is at the lower margin of ML eleigible machines, so I upgraded ram from the 4GB to 8GB, using this OWC, and now it flies: upgrade http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Other%20World%20Computing/8566DDR3S8GP/

Then, I went to AppStore and read the user comments and was stupified by the complaints and single star reviews. And, later learned that only 25% of the installed base is running ML.

http://www.computerworld.com/s/article/9233244/OS_X_Snow_Leopard_shows_signs_of_ becoming_Apple_s_XPSo, So, there appears to be an manifest and substantial reluctance to upgrade from SL to ML. Hence, I determined to resist my impulse to "want" and heed my real "need" for ML, which for me is not significant at this time. Meanwhile, I shall monitor the ML upgrades and the user responses thererto.

I complement Apple for its candor in posting the negative ML buyers' comments, but they chill me, becasue I do not need to take the risk. I suspect many of those complaining mighthave erred in the installation. Although, the first upgrade fo ML addressed the battery draining complaints.

I wish you the best outcome in the resolution your freightening problem.

Very interesting developement to my problem. I began noticing that the only time my computer seemed to crash was when I was using my top>left Hotcorners which I had set to "Mission Control". First I disabled it alltogether. Then I got brave and switched it "Application Windows" instead. My computer has not crashed (Knock on wood) in several days now. Bug?
