Speakers not working, but headphones are

My speakers on my MacBook Pro are not working, and it looks like the sound is disabled. The sound does work with headphones though. There is no red light coming from the headphone jack either. I tried the paperclip thing that was here before and couldn't get anything to change.

1.System Preference > Sound > Output > Internal Speakers

Make sure Mute is not enabled.

2. Reset SMC. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964

Choose the method for:

"Resetting SMC on portables with a battery you should not remove on your own".

Best.

Go to systempreferences and under the output tab make sure built in speakers is selected.

You can also go to utilities audio/MIDI set up, under output tab, source built in speakers.

Also, NEVER stick a paper clip or anything else that can conduct into the jack, if you had a red light you can use a wooden toothpick, or a Q tip with end cut off

Hope this helps.
