iPhone 5 AT&T preorder status thread

Hi All,

I preordered 2 iPhone 5s thru AT&T last night (around 12:47am PST) and was sent the first emails (each email for each order) notifying that they should be delivered to me by 9/21/2012. About an hour later, I received second emails indicating that the orders are processed. Tracking numbers still say "pending shipment", but all look good so far.

Let's open this thread to keep track of our AT&T preorders status, so we can share our order situations.

For what it's worth my AT&T preorder arrived today right on time. I know a lot of you are frustrated and rightfully so but I have had every iPhone since the 3G on launch day and the 5 is by far the best. It is amazingly better than my 4S in every aspect. So whenever and however you get your iPhone 5 when you do your gonna love it. Matter of fact I wrote this post on my black 32gig iPhone 5.

For the few minutes I was able to use it, I did notice it was a bit faster than my iPhone 4 and enjoyed playing with Siri a little while. However, I was shocked when I opened the box, as I couldn't believe the screen size. It literally looked as though the iPhone 4 had a bigger screen than the iPhone 5. I think it is because of the vertical length. I was not impressed at all. I found web pages much more difficult to read on the iPhone 5, as the print actually looked smaller.

I am actually checking out the Nokia Lumia 920 myself. I want to make sure I am investing my money in something I will be happy with. I also agree with you, Apple seems to have soured out and this latest stunt has really put a bad taste in my mouth for Apple.

I was in the same situation. They canceled my order and I got my 2 new phones. They lied to you or they did not know how to do it. My sales rep looked up how to do it and talked to people on the phone in support. I ported 4 lines over from tmobile, maybe that had something to do with it? But when I went to the store at 10:30am there was no line and they had 30 phones left.

Hopefully THIS BRINGS HOPE to some. Last night at 12:27am ET I received an email from AT&T that my phone has been shipped and it also provided a tracking number. I was first to order my black 64G iPhone5 "In Store" on Friday the 14th. My shipping has Estimated Delivery for the 24th. I am completely fine with this. I hope others get the same info I did!!

I'm sure ATT, like Apple etc, held back a significant portion of it's initial inventory to get them thru launch day - so that people showing up in stores would not be disappointed.

Now that launch day is over, the retained inventory will be released. The "backorder" 2-3 week window was certainly a safety net - just in case store sales were over the top and they didn't have remaining stock to fullfill held-back preorders.

I'm sure many people will be receiving similar emails now and have their new phones in hand long before the 2-3 week projection.

Well, I had the same as a lot of people in this forum: prdered early on 9/14, never go the tatus to move away from being back ordered, and no AT&T customer care (misnomer) help. AT&T had been unapologtic and arrogant and I felt fleeced and cheated on by a service provider whereas I had been a customer since 1998 and I DO have other options. So I promised myself that I will keep my word - which is if I do not get the phone as promised on 9/21, I will drop AT&T, cancel the order and move my business to Verizon (not sure who is the better of the evils here). That is what I did... yesterday, I stopped at the Verizon store around 12:00, they had the phone I wanted (black 64gb) and moved the line, and voila I have what I want and stick it to Ma Bell. I do not regret it a bit now. Hope you all get it without too much delay and run around. Best of luck...

Hi,

Bottom line, they chipped away at me enough that I switched to Verizon.

1. They charged me 200 for a new iPhone when they have never done that for iPhone upgrades, so much for loyalty.

2. They labeled their fake 3G+ network as 4G on the iPhone4S - really? 4G?

3. They stated the iphone would be delivered on 9/21 in every communication I received from them, and then,

didn't bother, on 9/21 to even tell me it would not be arriving on time as they stated.

3a) Oh, they didn't hesitate to populate my bill with a $200 balance for an upgrade that has not shipped.

4. Calls constantly drop even when the phone is standing still with all bars calling a non-mobile phone.

too many Straws, the last one was the 9/21 shipping... so:

1. I waited in line for 3 hours Friday morning and got my iPhone5 from Apple

(This was the reason for pre-ordering, and believing the statement about when it would arrive, to avoid the line)

2. I switched to Verizon, which, in my experience has a superiour 4G LTE network.

3. I called AT&T and told them that, because of the lack of a shipment as stated, thay I wanted to cancel my upgrade, and order. -- they did that- at least that's what they said

4. I ported my number to my new phone with an automated Verizon porting system within 10 minutes

5. Now I am free of AT&T, and, after my experience with them since 2007, I am very happy about that, I can't see how any other carrier can be any WORSE.

Lesson:

1. Don't buy anything from AT&T

2. Don't trust the carrier to sell you an Apple phone, go directly to Apple, it will be a much better experience.

3. Oh, don't use AT&T, switch to anything else, you will not regret it.

The release of the iPhone 5 will go down as the worst release ever known in the history of Apple! I guarantee it! Google it! 😠

I received my iPhone 5 this morning at 9:21 a.m. via UPS after prerodering directly from Apple. I won't even begin to go into all the BUGS that plagued the device. The device is a piece of total garbage, so I elected to promptly return it to the Apple store. I am disabled and don't have a car, so I had to travel by taxi, $35.00 round trip. The reason I preordered the device is because I am essentially homebound.

I waited 5 minutes for service at the Apple Store, as they were getting ready to close. Affter bringing every receipt, the original shipping box, my order number, the phone, etc., they left me lingering in the store for 1-1/2 hours trying to process a refund. They refused to give me my money back, and further Apple system problems would not allow them to take the device back into their inventory.

I was the only customer left in the Apple Store. I screamed and yelled and caused a flipping scene. The people at Apple have got to be some of the most imcompetent idiots on the face of this earth! When I finally demanded cash, the ignorant manager told me, "That will short my cash drawer." I told her I didn't give a flying ****! I ended up having a seizure in the store from all the commotion, as I have a medical condition, and almost ended up having to called an ambulance.

They finally gave me the cash, but now show the iPhone 5 as not being returned. As a result of the total idiots at Apple, my account now shows me as having two contracts with At&T and two phones, my original iPhone 4 and the iPhone 5, which I returned. I have been on the phone with Apple for over an hour since arriving back home, and the idiots cannot even give me the hours for their Customer Relations Department. Now, the ******* ***** hung up on me after spending 1 hour and 17 minutes on the phone and didn't even provide me with a case number! She just now tried to call me back TWICE, and I can't hear anything but dead silence on the other end of the line. Oh wait, she just called back for the third time and told me her headset was defective!

For those of you contemplating purchasing the new iPhone 5, you will be HIGHLY DISAPPOINTED. Apple still has NOT FIXED the WiFi issues it has with the release of iOS 6, has terrible customer service, and now can't even process a customer refund. I am through with Apple. NEVER AGAIN!

How dare Apple collect billions of consumer dollars and then defraud them by pulling a stunt like this, a buggy release of iOS 6 that wasn't ready to be released, mass confusion with customers, and complete and utter ignorance and stupidity!

Update: I got it!

This morning I went to the ATT store I made my preorder and pushed the issue very hard, but always with respect and professionalism. After all, this has nothing to do with the people working in the store. After a ton of magic and some amazing help from the staff at the store, I was able to cancel my order and get my new iPhone. The process wasn’t easy at all and the sales people were not eager to help, but the manager made it happen. It took at least an hour or more.

One point that really ****** me off was when I found out that this store has received 3 separate shipments of iPhone 5s, the last one was yesterday.

I was told I wouldn’t receive my iPhone on time because they were out of stock… even though the store could continue getting separate shipments and had 10 units in stock while I was in the store. Having a little law background, I explained the definition of “Fraud” to them. What ATT is doing to their customers is completely wrong.

Having said that, the manager of the store worked very hard with me and showed me the kind of professionalism and customer support I expect for any company. They need to replace the CEO of ATT with the store manager that helped me today! I was a very unhappy customer, but will always go back to that store for my wireless needs.

I'm happy you got your phone but I have still gotten nothing. I ordered within 1 hours of preorders and yet I'm still empty handed. I called AT&T again and they told me that I might get my phone from the 4th to 15th. I told him that was ridiculous, he said at least you don't have to wait longer than the people that preordered yesterday. I told him that I probably will not have to wait longer now but I've been waiting since the 14th. He went on to make excuses like the usual reps. If I get it before the month is over then I'm not going to be that upset. I am NOT going to sit their quietly if I have to wait from the 4th of October to the 15th. I have 5 lines with AT&T, they could be a little more appreciative.
