I ordered two 16gb Black iPhone 5s in store(ATT) late in the day in Hawaii on 9/14 which placed my order at just after 12:00 am on the 15th because of the time difference. I have the one email confirming the order but nothing else since. I was also told that ordering from that point would likely be a 14-21 day wait for my order to get to me. I said fine because thats just how things like this go and I was also assured that unless I was willing to wait in line on release day and take the gamble of getting one before they sold out, pre-ordering was the best bet. Well, I didnt want to gamble or wait in lineand I'm fine with that. In fact I'm fine with waiting to get my phone and unlike many others here, I havent called support, or ATT, or Apple once to complain or get a status update(but I have used ATT website to check order status).
The thing that bothers me is the idea that there are still pre-order customers waiting for their phones and in many cases, people that ordered it much earlier than myself, when these stores are still bringing in stock of iphones to sell to walk in customers. Now, I think for Apple thats acceptable because they're apple and this is their product to show off and have to sell in store to an extent. However, for the phone companies to make loyal paid-in-full customers wait weeks while anyone could walk in the store and pick one up from their "daily shipments" is pretty ridiculous. It seems simple, bring a few in store for display, but take care of the customers that already paid you before trying to make more sales on the side. I know that a local Radioshack got a small amount of stock in, but they took care of their preorders with their small stock and only had two iphone 5s in stock for walk in customers.
I'm just as antsy to get my hands on the new iphone as most here are but because I wasnt able to order one very early, I didnt and dont expect to get one soon, but this business practice is very disconcerting and even though I'm not clear on what Verizon or Sprint are doing with their stock, it really makes me rethink keeping my business with ATT.
Good luck....
