Note that these features require you have the "Find My" activated before you lose the device, the device be turned on and able to connect to a registered wifi connection (iPad, iPhone, iPod Touch) or data network (iPhone, iPad), and not having been restored by a finder of the device (if it was really stolen then the thief has probably restored it). Frankly in the case of a stolen phone this almost never works. Report it to the police. Change passwords on accounts. Tell your carrier to stop service. Go shopping for a new phone.
