Can DVD labels cause problems?

I used hi quality Avery Ink Jet Labels on the DVD's I created with iDVD. Can they seriously cause my DVD's to get error messages and not play?

The DVD's worked just fine when I first created them in 2 different computers and on 2 different DVD players. Now they don't work on my MacBook Pro - where they were created. Can this really be because I put a label on them?

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.7.1), iMovie '11

Yes. The Epson R series have disk holders that feed a disc thru the printer. Mine is somewhat "old" also. In the US Epson is the only printer company that offers disc printing. The Canons sold in Canada and Europe have disc printing capability.

However, SDMacuser has posted how to modify a US Canon to take the disc holder that can be purchased online.

Do NOT use adhesive labels!!!!!!!!! Because the DVD will no longer be perfectly balanced they can be hard on a DVD player.

Never, Ever, use labels!!! Buy printable DVD,s.

Try this program.

iMovie 06 and iDVD 09/11 is a terrific combination for making DVDs.

Look at the Epson CD/DVD Printers.

Since the labels have and/or will cause problems for the 60 some discs I burned of my home movies, I need to re-burn some or all of them.

So, for some of them, I have to create a disc image of a DVD (which I have done before using the very same DVDs - I've tried more than one) but I keep getting the error "Input/Output Error". It starts to create it, but after about 15 minutes I get the error. Does anyone know what that means?? These are home movies that I originally copied from VHS tapes. After I got the first DVD from my DVD Player/Recorder, I made a disc image and made more copies from that. Unfortunately I deleted the .cdr files because they are so big.

Thanks!!

Do the discs have to actually say "Printable" on the package? Or can you print on regular discs?

YES they MUST or they will smear dye all over and it will not look good - or even

• Make DVD disks un-playable - or even WORSE -

• set of dye in the DVD-players so they too get HARMED !

If You have ordinary - NON ink jet printable disks. Text Nicely with a Felt-Pen - That's the Best You can do to it.

Yes. It is just an optcal drive similar to a DVD player but with the capability to also burn discs. Printable DVD discs will be all white with an matte white surface. The package will indicate it's printable.

If you have access to a Mac with a drawer type of optical drive you could try using it to create a disk image of the burned discs. That would be safer than a slot type of drive like laptops and new iMacs have. But you will still have to resolve the issue with the error messages you're getting with the laptop.
