migration from a PC to a Mac. my migration keeps freezing if the screensaver goes on. I have been trying to transfer my photos and music for almost 24 hours with no results :(

Hi. My wonderful hubby surprised me with a new MacBook Pro last night (he will be deploying soon and won't be home for the holidays, valentines day, my birthday or our anniversary)! I have a great camera and a TON of photos on my laptop that I don't want to lose. So I downloaded the migration software to my Asus and it starts out just fine and then freezes around the 1 hr and 48 minutes left. I have changed the energy settings so that it doesn't sleep, but still likes to freeze. I'm not sure if it has something to do with the screen saver? Can someone help this new Mac user? I feel like I'm learning a new language!
