How do I check how much credit I have on my account and is it accessible via iPad

If you are logged into your account on the iPad then your balance should show at the bottom of the Featured tab in the App Store app and similarly in the iTunes store app at the bottom of the Films and TV Programmes tabs. Or you can tap on your id in Settings > Store and do View Appple ID and it should show at the top of that account screen.
