Setting up iCloud

I must be being dim here....

I have my Apple ID entered into the iCloud section in the settings on the iPad.

But when I visit www.icloud.com on the iPad, I don't see the option to log in - just the following choices:

- set up iCloud

- install find my iPhone

- install find my friends

If I select set up iCloud, it takes me to a page on the Apple site explaining that I need to add my Apple ID to the iCloud settings, which I've already done.

What do I need to do, or where do I need to go to be promoted to log in to iCloud on the iPad?

You don't login to iCloud.com on the iPad.

Follow the setup instructions here: http://www.apple.com/icloud/setup/ios.html

Entering your AppleID into the iCloud Settings is literally all you have to do.

Visit www.icloud.com on your computer. You can't do it with your iPad.

Thanks for the quick replies - makes sense I guess.

I think I just assumed I could log in at www.icloud.com in my browser, regardless of whether I was using an iPad or a Mac.

The reason that you don't have to log into iCloud.com on the iPad is because virtually everything in iCloud.com is already on the iPad - so need to log in. App data and documents, the calendar, notes, ..... Whatever else you are using iCloud for is on the device.

iCloud.com is really only intended as a way to get at your data when you are not using your own computer or mobile device.

Which makes sense of course - so my iPad knows its my iPad, so doesn't prompt me to login.

What happens if I'm at my parents house but don't have my iPad.

Can I log in to my iCloud on their iPad?

No. You have to log in to your iCloud.com account on a computer.

OK, not your fault, but I'd have thought it might be handy to be able to log in to your iCloud account on any device with an Internet connection and a browser.

Actually - there are other browsers that will let you log into icloud.com on the iPad.

I use iCab Mobile and I identify it as desktop FireFox 4.0 for Mac. I can log into my icloud.com account but it is sluggish and really serves no purpose for me to have to log in while using my iPad.
