My son just bought an old ipod shuffle.  When I connect it to my mac, it does NOT show up in the "device section."  How can I manage it?  It does show up in Finder, but it does not show me the songs currently on it.  What can I do?  Please help my son!  THANK YOU for your time!

Is there a devices section in iTunes when the iPod Shuffle is connected?  Have you tried other USB ports to see if that makes a difference?

Perhaps it would help to reset the Shuffle while it is still connected to your Mac.

No, the devices section in iTunes does not appear when ipod connected.  It DOES appear in finder, but none of the information on the ipod appears.  It was previously used by a windows user and now I am trying to use it on a mac.  I have tried all the USB ports.  I have tried to rest the Shuffle.  Please help me!

Have you tried connecting it to another PC or Mac to see if it is properly recognized and available in iTunes?

Can you try and reformat the Shuffle using the Disk Utility on your Mac to see if that helps?

Okay, I tried to use the disk utility.  I erased, but cannot restore.  It still does not appear in itunes, so I cannot resotre it.

I will try ad use another PC and see if I can get it to recognize it.  Maybe I should have tried that first.  Oh well, I cannot change that.  Have to put the kids to bed and I will get back to you. THANK YOU for your time!

I hooked the ipod up to another PC and it asked to be restored. YEAH!!  I restored it and then it worked fine on my mac.  THNAK YOU!!!!  My son is elated!  I should have tried that first, but I did not have a PC around until my brother-in-law walked in last night.  So glad that it worked so smoothly. Have a blessed day!
