iphoto for osx 10.6.8

Hi there,

I am bit annoyed with disappearance of iPhoto. I have about 5 years old aluminum 17" MacBook Pro and after HD failure I repaired it with new HD. That Mac was originally Tiger but after upgrades now it is Snow Leopard (10.6.8). So anyway there is no iPhoto. I really need it.

I went to app store and tried to buy iPhoto 11. Says I need Mountain Lion for that! Then I went to find it on all those system DVDs (have 7 Macs in the house) using Pacifist software. None of the iPhotos is compatible with my 10.6.8!

What I shall do now?

iMac, Mac OS X (10.6.8), 2 more iMacs, 3 x MacBooks, MacMini

Not the OS upgrade (10.6.8 is an OS upgrade - OS upgrades hae nothing to do with iPhoto) - iPhoto (and iLife come on the original system restore disks - if you have upgraded iPhoto (or iLife) via DVD then that is where you install from - if you purchased from the App store then you should be able to restore the version you pruchased (although it sound like that may not be working for people) - if not of those work then contact Apple support because they should

And system retore disks are specific to the system they came with so you need to find the ones for this system

Or you can purchase the iLife DVD on Amazon or Ebay if you choose

I think I will give up.

First: I tried all DVDs that came with every Mac I have (MacBook Pro, MacBook, 24" iMac, 20" iMac)

Second: I actually purchased iPhoto several times over

Third: If I still want to pay 20 dollarts and get it App store says iLife 11 will not work

So I am screwed. didn't expect situation like this with Apple. I thought I run away from endless upgrades when I went away from windows to Mac

I had a similar problem. I installed Snow Leopard, and after that I could not open iPhoto. I even had it backed up in 3 different places, but none of them could open it either. I finally took my iMac into the Apple store, and after trying and trying, the 'Genius' downloaded iPhoto '09 (vers. 8.1.2), and now it works perfectly. He actually downloaded the entire iLife suite, but I haven't used any of the other apps yet.

See if you can find iPhoto '09, or take you Mac into an Apple store.

Do any of the system install disks that came with your Mac have a disk like one of these?

What you're looking for is an installer package like the "install Bundled Software" one in these screenshots. If you have it you can install the iLife version that came with your Mac. Then apply any updaters needed.

If the updater won't launch you can use Pacifist to extract and install iPhoto from the disk onto your Mac. If you can't get it to work take it to an Apple Store along with your various disks and have a Genius do it for you.

For what it's worth iPhoto 7 (08), 8 (09) and 9 (11) [if your computer has an intel processor] will run on 10.6.8.

Zack, Had the same problem and called support and m fixed (15 minutes start to finish) Support had me

Click on the photo and show info, look at what it was opening with to confirm QuickTime was selected and it was. They then had me click on open with and look for the [Utilities] folder and look for Quick Time 7 there. My Util fold did not have it and they sent me a quick link to download it. Once I downloaded, I followed the same steps to 'open with' and selected the QT in the Utilities folder and I was on my way. I was able to get support for no cost as I had also recently puchased the upgrade from Tiger to Snow/Leopard/Lion.

Hopefully that helps in your situation as well.

Cheers,

Jackson
