Purchased movies won't play anywhere

Super frustrating when this is supposed to "just work."

So I get the BD combo pack of Titanic, and promptly download the digital copy, extras and all, to the tune of 3.5 gb. Then I decide it might be fun to watch some on my iPad 2 before I fall asleep. When trying to launch it, I get a "cannot open" error. I am somewhat used to this error from other videos so I think fine, will stream it on my iPhone 4. Again, get a "cannot open" error. So I go to my MacBook (10.8.1) and try to play it there on the iTunes (10.7). The extras launch just fine but no movie even though I click on play several times. Okay then, found it in the finder and played it in QuickTime X. No problem playing there. So I try to open it in iTunes again where I get a "this movie requires QuickTime" error. Then, as a last ditch effort, I try my Apple TV. For some reason, again the extras are fine but the movie is a no go.

What the **** is happening here?

1) This file was from a movie released last week, so the KB article (which I was already aware of) would not fix the issue, which exhibited itself in files long before Lion came about.

2) This still wouldn't address why the movie isn't streamable, yet still playable in QuickTime.

3) Since the BD combo included no physical copy of the digital copy disc like is the norm, I have no recourse for re-downloading it.
