Iphone not detectable for tethering via USB

It shows up in Itunes via USB and wireless tethering still functions. The network just don't detects the Iphone when connected via USB anymore. It has worked before without any issues. Now it fails both on mac and pc. I've tried shutting both systems off. In "network" it just states that the cable isn't connected or that the unit doesn't answer, but the Iphone shows up in Itunes... I've got no idea why.

What does a network restore do? Is it recommendable?

We are having the same problem. Tethering no longer works when using USB. This occurred today after the installation of the security update and iTunes update. We can still get on the Internet if we select wifi access. We intend to revert back to the day before using the time machine backups. However of course, we will NOT be able to take advantage of the Latest Apple updates until this is resolved.
