Q: using 3gs iphone as an ipod - need a sim??

Hi,

I followed the instructions to erase the data and setup as a new device however when it tries to activate it tells me that I need a sim card (my sim was cut down to fit in my new iphone so won't fit) so do I need a sim to finish setting it up or can I get around it? The apple instructions don't mention needing a sim to set it up as a new device and actually tell you to take the sim out - very frustrating!!

Thanks

iPhone 3GS

Yep, you'll need a sim to activate the phone, no way around that fact. While you can use it as a touch without a sim installed, anytime you update software, restore or setup as new, you need a sim card installed to re-activate the phone.

    Borrow one if you can.
