No audio with Sony AV Receiver

I've just upgraded my AV receiver to a Sony STR-DH820 and now I have no sound coming out of my 2009 Mac Mini. Video, via a mini-DisplayPort to HDMI adapter works fine, but I can't get the audio to work.

Other devices are working fine, so I know it's something to do with the config for the Mac connection. I have the Mac on the SAT input of the amp and have connected the optical output of the Mac to the optical input of the amp labelled SAT and also assigned the inputs.

Driving me nuts!

You assigned the inputs (I'm assuming that's on your receiver), but did you reassign the audio output from your Mac? Needs to be set to 'Optical'.

Great help so far here, just to add...

Open Audio Midi Setup in Applications>Utilities, see the input & output options & KHz setting there.

Output is optical in the sound config in system prefs and I've looked at the midi config too and can see that 24-bit PCM is an option there too. All ****** strange as this was working before, so I'm starting to thInk crazy things like there being something unusual about Sony's amps.

For the record - this turned out to be a problem with my amp (which I replaced for a new one)
