What is Letterboxing??

What is Letterboxing??

When I import video from my digital camera a box automatically pops up and it says "letterboxing .. this may take a while". It takes forever - then the video is distorted. iMovie "Help" does not even contain "letterboxing".

Hi Jewel,

it means that you will see your movie with 2 black band; one on the up side, the other on the down side. Imagine the 16:9...or in cinema!

You can change it in the preference of iMovie:

IMPORT-->automatic conversion from pillarbox to letterbox-->uncheck it!

If you do record in 16:9 aspect ratio, when you open a new project, change the settings to DV Widescreen. This means you dont have to wait for it to letterbox.
