HELP NEEDED! Blue Screen of Death and Gray Screen

I really need a help from a OS X Mountain Lion. I have been trying to fix my Macbook Pro 15' early 2011 for about a week without succeed.

PROBLEM:

My MBP isn't sarting up. Everything looks normal the chime, Apple logo, the wheel and after those things it get stucked on a gray screen.

The computer doesn't boot from USB, DVD and the cm-R restoration isn't working.

THINGS I'VE DONE:

1. I took to an Apple authorized service in Curitiba, Brazil. They reinstalled Mountain Lion (R$90,00 or about U$45,00). After couple hours of usage. Same problem started to occur again. I call them again saying that the same problem persist and they said for reinstallation, there isn't a warranty. I have to pay again for the service.

2. Reinstall OS X. I made a partion a thumb drive and reinstalled everything. After few hours same problem again. The system wasn't starting.

3. I bought a new HD. I replaced the original HDD for a SSD OCZ Vertex 3. I installed the OSX in this brand new SSD. The computer worked for 1 hour and boom, same problem of booting and starting.

4. I have tried NVRAM and PRAM (cmd+option+P+R), nothing happened. Gray screen after the Apple logo.

5. Verbose-mode (cmd+V).

6. Single-user Mode (cmd+S).

7. Start in Safe Mode. (Shift). The bar doesn't load until the end and I get a gray screen.

8. Restoring from internet. (cmd+R). Sometimes, I get the Blue Screen or the screen turn black, but I can still hear the fan spinning.

You've done EXTENSIVE troubleshooting here and pretty much covered everything that could be software related. Honestly? At this poing it has to be something hardware going on. Possibly the logic board is going out on you? If you've done an E&I on the machine (which was certainly done when you replaced the HD) and the problem still persists, then it's definitely a hardware issue. Either take it to an apple retail store, or authorized service provider to get diagnostics done to see exactly what's wrong.

First you need to run the hardware diagnostic test from the OS bootable image.

It's definitely a hardware problem. If it's ram, don't worry, it's cheap and another

opportunity to pimp your mac further. If it's the logic board and YOU ARE SURE

that you have not physically damaged your mac, I suggest you bought an applecare.

Applecare extends your warranty and you can demand a fix or a new macbook pro.

Before you buy an apple care, though, you should read the policy to be sure. If it is

a factory defect, an apple care plan will rescue you.

I hope good luck !

Did your mac ever experienced a power loss or a battery fail ?

Download at www.memtestosx.org

Power on your MBP while holding down the Command and S keys to force Mac OS X to boot into Single User Mode. Once you see a black screen with white text, you can release the key combination. After all the system logging is done scrolling past, type 'memtest all 2' (without the quotes) to test all memory two times. Two passes should be enough to detect any blatant problems, but I wouldn’t hesitate to let it run for hours on end if I suspected an intermittent memory problem (memtest all). When complete, you should be greeted with “All tests passed” if your RAM is in good condition. If your system locks up or freezes indefinitely during the test, you may have a bad memory module on your hands.

Thank you guys for all your suggestions.
I just got my MBP back from the Apple Authorized Service, and they diagnosed the problem with the Logic Board.
They asked R$2200 (U$1100) to replace the part. Certainly, I denied to do this replacement.
In addition, yesterday I called the Apple Care to see if they could give me an exception to extend my warranty. They said that they are not giving any exception. Remembering that my computer got damaged only 6 days after the warranty expired.

Probably I will need to sell the broken computer on Ebay.

I am very disappointed with the product and also the customer service. This was my forth Apple computer. 😢

Hope I get a better luck next time.

> not giving any exception

Regrettably typical.

But as long as you don't buy a Retina-type Mac you can fix them yourself, mostly, at much lower cost than Apple would charge.

Look for "take apart" or "fixit" plus your model.

I've had three Macs I've owned _each_ fail on or within a day or two after the end of the first year, besides some failures during the first year.

Three motherboards on a 2007 Mini during the first year, for example.

I'd paid the Applecare extension fees. I think they're just part of what a Mac costs you.

Don't gamble. They break a lot.

After having had a 20 days troubleshooting experience withe same problem in the same MBP model.. and after having talked to apple too.. I am here to break a news to all those people who are having the same problem..

The problem is with the soldering of the graphics card to the Logic board.

Solution? The only Solution is a new Logic board which will ultimately undergo the same fate as the previous one And which costs around 800$

What to expect? In April, a lawsuit is going to be heard in california in which this problem will be addressed and if apple changed its mind to introduce any replacement program.. that can be a good news to many of the customers here..

Our Position? Apple has definitely lost the trust we had in them for giving us this deal at 1900$ and going through this fate and never even listening to us..

Wait for the Apple and sign the petition by googling it.. there is a petition circulating.. that may help.. btw.. a drowning man catches at a straw..
