Sep 16, 2012 1:12 PM in response to jason4101by sberman,★HelpfulThe first thing I thought of was some iCloud system issue, but I ruled that out because the iCloud system status says everything is OK.
Here's where to see that status: http://www.apple.com/support/icloud/systemstatus/
The next thing that comes to mind is to try this:
I assume you're doing everything you say using the Mac's Mail application. If that's true, then try logging into your mail via web at http://www.icloud.com and see if you get the same result.
If my assumption is incorrect and you are using the web, then try using the Mac's Mail application.

Sep 16, 2012 1:46 PM in response to sbermanby jason4101,Ok I've logging into my account online and everything works fine I am able to send and receive mail online only. I've tried in the Mac's Mail application and thru the preferemce pane window.
All the other applications associated with my iCloud acount are fine and sync correctly except mail. It starts trying to setup and imediatly gives me a message wait a moment and then try turning on again.

Sep 16, 2012 2:06 PM in response to jason4101by sberman,★HelpfulOne quick double-check question:
If you go to System Preferences > iCloud, is Mail checked?
I wonder what would happen if you go to Mail preferences and remove and re-add your iCloud mail account.

Sep 16, 2012 2:31 PM in response to sbermanby jason4101,System Preferences>iCloud, is not checked. If I check the box next to mail there is an attempt and then I get the message wait a moment and then try turning on again.
In the mail application under accounts there is no iCloud account active or listed. If I try to activate it in the application I get the same message.

Sep 16, 2012 2:37 PM in response to jason4101by sberman,OK, I think I've got the solution:
Under System Preferences > iCloud, are you signed in? What happens if you click the "Account Details" button on the left? Do you see your Apple ID?
You should!

Sep 16, 2012 2:58 PM in response to sbermanby jason4101,Ok thank you
I've went into the mail application and manually added the iClound account. Doing this has now allowed me to check the box in preference's. The only problem is I am receiving mail just fine but not able to send.
I'll try contacting iCloud support.
Again thank you

Sep 16, 2012 3:22 PM in response to sbermanby jason4101,OK I am now receiving and sending mail on that account. The only thing is that the settings that are described in that artical are different that what the account set up automaticaly.
Should I change the setting to the ones described or just stay with what mail chose by itself?

Sep 16, 2012 3:23 PM in response to jason4101by jason4101,Opps. I just had a brain fart. I will check with my wifes account on her macbook and see what is there.

Sep 16, 2012 3:40 PM in response to jason4101by sberman,Well, if your wife's account is not enlightening, I would suggest changing the settings to the article's (but take note of what is currently there).
After all, what is currently there is not working!
Plus, your initial posting suggests you're still running Lion, which is not as up-to-date as the article.

Sep 16, 2012 5:03 PM in response to sbermanby jason4101,Sorry about the operating system. It is Montain Lion. I didn't realize I needed to update that. I wont get a chance to check the other macbook till late tonight.
So far I had to establish the @me account manually and everything started to work. I decide to change the setting to that listed in the articale. Once again mail as listed in the preferences application was not checked, either under iCloud and under the mail and accouts options.
So for now I will wait to see what the other mac has for settings.
I also uninstalled the Little Snitch application thinking that I might have blocked something or that it was blocking something on its own. So far this has not helped.
I will post me results when I am confident that it is a permante fix. I will also be sending the iCloud support people an email to see if this is common or just an isolated incedent.
