how to open or convert .fol files

I had to sell my macbook pro. I saved everything that was on it and placed it all on an externall hard drive. When I opened the files or external drive on the Windows machine I am using alot of the files cannot be read.

Why does this happen?

And specifically, how do I open .fol files?

I saved all important email docs and folders and it seems they are in the .fol file extension.

Please tell me these files are not lost forever!!

No I was not running windows. I find this as strange as you do. Exported all email files or saved emails onto my desktop and then loaded or imported them to the external hard drive. When I wanted to open them on the Windows machine they were not readable. And it said the files were in the .fol extension.

How is the external drive formatted?

I don't see a way to export email files or saved emails. All I see is a way to export mailboxes. Please clarify what you did here?

You say that you loaded or imported them to the external drive. Could you provide more details on how you did that.

It doesn't sound good for you recovering any of your email.

Well I think I opened an email folder, selected SAVE ALL and then there must have been an option for exporting them or saving them outside he mail program. I don't know now. My son has a macbook pro laptop just like mine and so I will have a look at his but I don't know if he uses email at all or not.

I find the statement of your problem most confusing. You claim that files on the external disk are from your MBP but .fol files come from Microsoft Mail.

Were you running Windows on your MBP?
