Losing audio when recording instrument

Hello, I'm having a problem with recording my guitar through Logic...

I'm going through the Apple Pro Training Series textbook chapter 2, Recording Audio. I'm able to connect my guitar through my audio interface, make the channel strip setting changes, I can hear the effects changing the output of my guitar and see the recording level indicator respond when I play.

However, everytime I hit play on the backing track I made in chapter 1 or hit record, my guitar cuts out. So, I can't just play with a backing track nor can I record any audio from my guitar. A friend suggested I check the Input Monitoring, I've toggled that back and forth with no change.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated
