macbook retina graphic corruption: NVDA(OpenGL): Channel exception! exception type = 0xd = GR: SW Notify Error

Suddently, in Safari I had tons of graphic corruption (big squares, artifacts, blicking windows etc...) and the console was full of error messages (had to reboot to fix the issue). Someone know if the current dev build 10.8.2 includes new nvidia drivers?

Thank you.

I have so many problems with this retina macbook pro.

Ugh.

After reinstalling 10.8 & 10.8.2 I am having the same issue again. It ran fine for 36+ hours, then froze my machine. After reboot this was in the console before the crash (I've seen this many times):

"NVDA(OpenGL): Channel exception! exception type = 0xd = GR: SW Notify Error"

I've had this issue since the begining of 10.8 (and never in 10.7 before then).

Anyone have any other ideas?

Hi,

I got a freezing problem with a similar message log (same exception with different numbers):

I didn't think there will be a solution only by reinstalling OS X! So I hope there will be any help in terms of an official patch.

I helped me by deactivating the NVIDIA Card and only use the internal INTEL Graphics Card. To do this I used the tool gfxCardStatus from http://gfx.io . This helps for the moment, BUT THIS IS NO FINAL SOLUTION!

Hey, we have the same MBP...

I haven't give it a look though, since it's mainly my GF using it, and the HDD died the other day, freshly replaced by an SSD, but if I remember well, I used the Combo to update it to 10.8.2.

Since she has been using I can't tell if it was on the GMA or the Geforce, I just installed gfxCardStatus and forced the discrete chip to see if she calls me complaining of crashes (but none in the last hour)... maybe the Combo is worth a shot

Hi, I have read your postings.

I hava also a Mid 2010 15" MBP. My MBP crashes every day multiple times. I bought it in 11/2010. I have no Apple Care. And I replaced my optibay with a SSD.

Is there any solution you get a new logic board for free? I'm not sure if Apple will replace the board if the see that I have build-out the optibay and added a SSD. :-(

Any help?

Hey Basti:

I just got my Mid 2010 15" MBP back from repair, and it is working great, the replacement logic board (with video cards) fixed the crashes, and apple covered the repair cost for free.

Even better news for you, I also switched my optibay out with a SSD drive. After asking apple, they just requested that I take the SSD drive out and put the optical drive back before the repair. In short, they do not want to take responsibilty for potentially breaking the SSD. Otherwise they are fine with the switch- there is no warentee issue.

Hope this helps,

Donald
