How do I format a cell to convert to a 10-digit phone number? ie. xxx-xxx-xxxx

select the cell(s) to format, then open the cells inspector and select the "Custom..." entry at the bottom of the format menu:
Give the format a name:
I called it "10-digit Phone Number". Now set the digits as needed. I assumed the format:
(###) ###-####
then enter the 10 digits into a cell with this format:
Another feature not with Numbers '08, but I've worked with on Excel for years. Shame it's taking Apple so long.
