Ipad not backed up, now frozen

Apparently, I have not backed up my ipad. It is now frozen with the IPad Not Backed Up Message in the Center. I cannot slide on or off and have no clue how to get it going. Thanks

Try:

- iOS: Not responding or does not turn on

- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iPad fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.

- If still not successful that indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

I have never seen that message unless you backup with iCloud. I have seen others in the same predicament and rebooting usually works.

Anyway, if you are not backing up with iCloud and you only use iTunes, read this. If you use iCloud, it is explained in here as well.

It is a good idea to back up on a regular basis.

That switch above the volume button is called the side switch. This support article from Apple explains how the side switch works.
