Sep 17, 2012 11:21 AM in response to sbiringby planb77,Restoring the iPod on the Mac should reformat the iPod's hard drive file system to Mac OS X Extended Journaled. So it should be Mac formatted once the restore process is finished.

Sep 19, 2012 4:00 AM in response to sbiringby sbiring,Altough all the steps you have advised are required/useful the thing that made the difference was the firewire. I got round the issue by plugging the firewire into a power outlet socket and the usb into my mackbook and no errors have been found thus far.I will update once all the updates have completed aswell. Thanks for all your help. S
