Why does my iPod classic Instantly disconnect itself?

I've just received (from eBay) a good condition 120gb iPod classic, Hooked it up to my laptop...worked great..windows found it. My music however is on my older desktop (Windows XP SP3) and when i go to connect my ipod it starts to connect (for around 3 secs.) then starts disconnecting straight away and returns to the main ipod menu

The only trace left is the safely remove hardware icon in the start-up tray and the following message in device manager:-

I have also tried re-installing the mass storage software etc but nothing. Tried everything suggested by apple...nothing. When i tried to change the drive label i couldn't as it wasn't selectable :-

My ipod video (30gb) still works fine. I've tried disconnecting all the other usb devices and its plugged directing into the motherboards USB...still the same problem. Tried re-installing itunes....tried selective startup....no avail.

PLEASE HELP!!

It's sorted now, Thanks for your help. I had already tried the above thankyou.

Turns out there was not enough power from the USB ports (even though i have 6 and had tried using only the ipod in each one)

I connected an old AC-powered USB hub....issue solved

The big ipod classic must take alot of juice, Because my ipod video 30gb worked no problem with all the usb ports in use.

Hope this can help others 🙂
