Worth Ave Insurance for Iphone 5?

So I was looking up insurance options for my Verizon 64GB Iphone 5. I normally go with Asurion, But looking at $240 for 2 years of insurance seems a lot. The place Worth Ave Insurance seems very comprehesive for the price and low deductible ($50 per claim) but somehting in my head is ringing too good to be true.

So my insurance option are:

1) Applecare

2) Verizon Asurion

3) Square Trade

4) Ensquared

5) Worth Group

Summary for most is here:

Has anyone insuranced with Worth Ave? If so, what are your experiences with them. I found one review which was less than stellar:

What do you guys think?

Full disclosure - My name is David Anderson, Product Director at Protectyourbubble.com

With cases and the new iPhone 5 design (aluminum body), loss and theft will be the major reason people need insurance for this device so you are definitely on the right path. For example, loss and theft claim make up 75% of all of our claims - essentially 3 times more than damage claims.

We are a new brand in the US this year, but Protect Your Bubble is one of the top insurers of mobile devices worldwide.

Enjoy your new iPhone 5!

I have experience with Asurion, it's a joke. $10/mo for insurance, and then $50 to get a new phone regardless of situation. If you're careful enough, you will most likely never have a problem. I dropped it in order to cut my phone bill down.

Either forgo insurance, or get AppleCare to extend the warranty.

I'm actually going insurance-less, because of the way Verizon has their upgrades set for Unlimited Data customers; I need to pay full retail, so it doesn't matter too much anymore.

Beware of WORTH AVE. GROUP INSURANCE, after purchasing a policy with them last year for my iPhone 4s, this weekend I went on fishing trip and by accident fell in the Atlantic ocean, when I called Worth Ave Group to make a claim, I was told, I had to recover the phone from the ocean to make a claim? Really? They gave me every excuse in the book not to pay.

I DO NOT RECCOMEND THIS INSURANCE TO ANYONE, THE RATES ARE FAIR, BUT IF YOU EVER HAVE A CLAIM IT WILL NOT BE PAID.

Zach305, I saw this and another negative one star review you left on About.com. It's a real bummer that you lost your iPhone in the ocean, I'm sorry that happened to you. But it's not really fair to trash talk Worth Ave Group insurance, just because their insurance policy doesn't cover accidental loss. It says right on their website that the plan only covers theft and I assume that means they'd need a police report to back up the theft claim.

This is what their website says:

"During the policy period, Worth Ave. Group will cover a loss due to accidental damage, theft, fire, flood, power surge due to lightning or natural disasters, and vandalism to the iPhone you own or have leased -- including corporate issued iPhones entrusted to you, WORLDWIDE, except as excluded in the "Special Provisions" section below.

There is no coverage for mysterious disappearance (unless stolen), mechanical or electrical breakdown, wear or tear, corrosion and rust, nuclear war or government seizure."

I'm sure it's frustrating that your phone insurance didn't cover the event that happened to you, but I don't feel that it's fair to suggest that they were cheating you or are a disreputable company. (they may or may not be, I have no experience with them.) You just didn't choose an insurance plan that would cover dropping your phone in the ocean, and that's not really their fault.

But thanks for letting us know about your experience, it is useful to know that one must possess the phone to make an insurance claim with Worth Ave, because the "mysterious disappearance" part could be easily missed.

First, I'm glad you are such a fan of Worth Ave Group!

Let me tell you something that I did not share on my post! When I first called them to insure my iPhone, I was told that

my iPhone would be covered in any event! based on other reviews

I thought that, they were a stand up company and I trusted them.

My MISTAKE!!

When I called to make my claim, I was yelled at and treated like I was

10 years old! Very Unprofessional!! Then I was told to

Jump in the ocean and go find the iPhone. Really?

After that I was told a story about another customer who had

Dropped his iPhone of a cliff and made the forest rangers get the phone

for him? Really!!

Then, I was told another story about some customers who were on

a ferry boat that sank, and how they did not pay any claims for those

customers either!!

Reliable Company? What I posted was the truth and at no point was I treated

like a valued customer or a person even!!

This is my opinion, there was no need for your response, nor

did I ask for you to explain their policy to me.

I am currently going through a theft claim on my mac with worth ave group now. I followed the steps on their website EXACT. Filed my police report, filled out all papers, copied my ID, and the receipt. It's now been longer than 2 weeks and if you want to hear anything back from worth ave group you have to keep calling them. Even then I still have not talked to someone over the phone. They will email you short responses, but you have to call that day, then they will check their email. If you don't call, don't expect a reply back because I didn't get one for 4 days and then I finally called and got one back. Which then they emailed me and asked me to send in information on how much it would be to replace it? Now my Mac is still on apple.com as far as price. And I'm pretty sure it says on their website they have an adjuster that deals with all of that. When I log in online it still says pending. No calls, no information on the process, and no replacement. I understand its going to take sometime but the way they put it on their website when you submit your claim its sent to the adjuster wednesday and checks are cut Monday. I'm just not to thrilled with the communication I've had with them. It's terrible. And yes, they are pretty rude IF you speak to someone on claims. Other employees if you called and have a general question are absolutely wonderful.

My daughter's iPhone 4s broke (water damage). I have Worth Ave Ins. I called and they were friendl/helpful and said a claims person would call a couple days after I filed the claim. I opened a claim and got an email reply when all info was provided that my claim was received. So far so good. But that was 10 days ago. I have not been contacted. I tried calling them yesterday during their business hours but got not answer. Can't go that long w/o a phone so I already had to front the money to replace the phone at an Apple store. (The $200 flay fee to fix or replace was nice! I might have skipped the insurance if I knew that was available. After the premium plus one deductible, I'm paid more than that. And they'll probably only give me $150 ($200-deductible). I hope they do not expect the device back when I can prove I had it and turned it in to Apple to get the replacement. My phone is insured thru Asuron/Verizon. They shipped a replacement the next business day. Verizon insurance does not cover theft but otherwise the servive is what you would expect when making a claim against something you use every day. If my auto insurer was that slow, I'd be ditching them pretty fast. I'll think twice abourt using Worth Ave again.

I too recently filed a claim for my daughters Iphone 4s, the screened shattered. It's been 3 weeks. They say they are sending a new (refurb) phone. At first they told me that they usually send to genuis bar, but wait for official word. I waited a day or two then they said no, that they will send a new one. Phone barely texts but works somewhat. If she had no phone at all, it would have been a problem. True no calls back. All short emails. Not sure if I'll do this again.

DO NOT USE Worth Ave!!! You are better off paying the extra with your carrier. This company is a scam and should not be allowed to sell phone insurance. Sure they are cheaper, but they will make every attempt not to process your claim. I made the mistake of going with them due to the $50 deductable and found out the hard way that they will not process a claim or make it extemely difficult.

Well if Worth Ave is a scam, then they are the most honest group I've dealth with. My wife cracked her screen. She has been able to get Apple to replace it in the past for free, but this time she had to pay. Paid it. Submitted the claim to Worth Ave. They sent a check about a week later. They cover theft and accidents, but not loss. I knew that going in. The carrier stopped covering these phones.
