Facebook push notifications not working properly

Currently, I am receivining my Facebook notifications, however the sound is not playing when they come in, neiter is the vibration. I've checked all seeting of and pertaining to push notifications and sounds without any luck. All other notifications come through (text message, other app notifications, mail, etc.) -- just not Facebook.

I am having the same problem. Since I updated to iOS 6, I get the badge Icon as well as the pop up on the screen but no beeping or vibrating!! I have checked my settings and the vibrate and the sound are set to ON. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling, powercycling phone, I tried to set up the text alerts but that only sends alerts for messages. This is BEYOND frustrating as I use this as a communication with family and friends! I hope they come up with a fix/upgrade for this soon. One of the big perks of updating to the new system was that facebook would be integrated. Now it's just a headache because if I want to see my updates I have to keep checking my phone instead of just listening for it!!!!!

You are right, I misread the Update notification.

There are three locations where Push notifications are configured

a) Settings; Notifications; Facebook

"Notification Center" must be switched "ON"

"Alert Style" must be set to either "Banners" or "Alerts"

"Badge App Icon" must be set to "ON"

"Sounds" must be set to "ON"

"View in Lock Screen" must be set to "ON"

b) Settings; Facebook; Settings

"Vibrate" must be set to "ON"

"Play Sound" must be set to "ON"

c) Within the Facebook app

Open the Settings page, select Notifications and check that all check marks that you need are set.

I am not sure, but could it be that you can have Facebook Notifications only on one iOS device, so that if you have Facebook both on iPad and iPhone only one will show push notifications?

If you have done all these steps and still receive no sounds when Push Notifications appear, it is safe to assume that the problem is not on your end.

hi there,

this evening I tried to get Facebook to send me Push Notifications at all, which I, too, lost with the iOS-Update.

What seemingly brought them back, was to both delete the Facebook app and remove the account details from "Settings; Facebook". Then restart iPhone, reinstall app and finally reenter credentials. Now I get Push Notifications, but neither sound nor vibrating alerts. Could it be that the missing sounds are a problem on Facebook's side?

hi there,

if I understand your method correctly, you are not getting Push Notifications from the Facebook app itself, but from the Messages app, since Facebook sends you a SMS each time there is something new on your profile.

The difference is merely academical and should it really be a problem on Facebook's side, then your method does qualify as a viable workaround. Good job 🙂

Chris,

When you say reenter credentials, do you mean in the app or in Settings->Facebook? I understand to delete the account in Settings->Facebook, delete the app, reboot the phone and reinstall the app. When I log in, do I do it through the app or Settings->Facebook? And if I do it through the app should I also do it in Settings?

Thanks,

Craig

I had the same problem here is my fix:

Turn off your bluetooth. I had mine on for some external speakers that I have been using, I was not hearing any alert tones, all of the sudden I was in the room with the bluetooth speakers and "Ding" scared the heck out ouf me!😮 I had, for the past few days been unknowingly, sending all my alerts to my bluetooth speakers, turned off bluetooh now alerts can be heard through my phone again.😉

Thanks for sharing. Unfortunately it does appears that this is a new update that I don't have yet. I have not been notified of an update by the AppStore application. If its not a new update, then I don't have the following lines in my settings as you have explained:

"-Go to Mobile Push

-Look at the top of the screen and it said "Sound for push notifications"

-Edit it to ON for all notifications"

Please let me know if what I have explained above is how exactly it is. And help out if I'm not looking at the right places.

Many thanks,

Kunle.
