Hi nyakit,

Click on Apple in the upper left-hand corner of the screen, and select Restart or Shut Down (depending on what you are wanting to do). It's always a good idea to close any open apps, docs, etc. before doing a shut down, but it won't actually do it without asking you if you want to save the ones you might have left open.

If you are really wanting to turn off your machine, you would select Shut Down. If you were wanting to reboot for some reason, you would select Restart.

Hope this helps!

Cheers,

GB

Newbee questions:

So the button on the right is more for a sort of 'sleep' & not a real shut down? Will power be still consumed after I turn off the laptop with the button on the right?

The mac book pro came with a power cord & a white adaptor like thing. What is the power chord for? Is it just to extend the length for the 'adaptor' like thing? Where is the battery for the laptop located?

What button on the right? On the laptop? If so, that is how to power it up; it's best not to shut it down using that - it has to go through certain sequences when shutting down and using the File menu > shutdown will allow it to do that.

You need to recharge the battery - that is what the powercord is for (and the adapter) - take a look at your owner's manual. You need to fully charge it when you first get it; after that, Apple suggests a mix of 25 - 50% battery use and the rest of the time having it plugged in.

The battery is located in the bottom case under the keyboard - depending on your model, it may or may not be user replaceable (again, check your manual and your machine's specifications).
