itunes 10.7 on Win7 64bit keeps skipping during playback

You're not the only one having this problem. I am listening to my music on a 32bit Windows Vista computer and when I am doing something like on Firefox it skips, it does it every 15 to 30 seconds of the song and I go back into the song to see if it skips again and it doesn't do it.

Also I seen that ATH.exe is running and using almost 100% of my CPU power and slows my computer down. I disabled it because I have no idea what it does with iTunes but it's annoying and I feel like going back to the previous version of iTunes because there was NOTHING wrong with it. This one is chalk full of problems.

I am getting this on Windows 7 32bit as well and it is driving me mad. I have never had a problem with iTunes like this before, but now the more I do (opening browser windows, emails, PDFs, etc..) the worse the 'skipping' gets.

I have reinstalled iTunes twice and have also reinstalled my graphics/sound card software and drivers and all to no avail.

I am also getting this problem since installing iTunes 10.7 on my Windows 7 64bit laptop. I never used to get any problems with 10.6.

Same here. Windows 7 x64, Core 2 Duo, 4 GB RAM.

Since the update iTunes.exe will use a full CPU core for several minutes when it starts up. Anything else that wants CPU time causes audio playback to skip or stutter.

It is definitely hogging more CPU since the update. Hopefully this is just a bug.

Same problem. Old Win XP machine, but it ran fine before I upgraded to 10.7.0.21.

I too am having the same problem. Just updated iTunes yesterday and now all of my music skips.

Trying to be useful, as there is no sign of any update to fix this, has anyone tried turnig off soundcheck? I had it turned on and it is certainly more stable with it turned off.

I am also going to mention that I am using an AMD 5400 series sound/video card and I am using the HDMI out for 1080p video as well as 192Kbps audio. I just wondered if this may be the common them for us poor souls who are suffering with this very annoying problem.

For info, my tracks play fine with Windows Media Player - so I don't think this is a disk issue.

I don't have soundcheck turned on so don't think that's the cause :-/

My setup is AMD Turion II Dual-Core Mobile M500, 4GB RAM, AMD M880G and ATI Mobility Raedon HD 4200 running Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit SP1.

As I said, I never had a problem in the past, just since updating to 10.7 😟

I take back my comment about soundcheck. It ran (almost) flawlessly for about 10 mins and then had a total freak-out! I wasn't even doing anything else, which was weird. Normally if I leave it alone, it plays fine. It tends to be when I open new windows that it goes wrong.

I disabled Soundcheck and it solved the problem.

Im having the same prob.. i got XP windown 64 and as soon as i dowloaded the 10.7, it skips, specially when i have firefox open!!!!
does anyone know how to go back to the previous version??? i would appreciate it.. No music for the past 2 days.. stutters and skips.. it went apes on me LOL

Windows 7 Home Premium user here, 32-bit as well. It really doesn't appear to matter what is open for me; as long as I've focused on some other window other than iTunes, it will inextricably start skipping almost exactly like a badly scratched CD. This is absolutely unacceptable, because this simply never happened before with any previous version of iTunes. It's simply gotten to the point where there are too many users experiencing the same issue. There are already many forum posts about this problem all over the net too, and Apple techs really haven't even responded about this at all? or are they assuming everyone's going to be more focused on listening to music on their brand new iDevices instead?

Really, everything is about quality control, right down to the software, and that absolutely should have included iTunes 10.7, but obviously that wasn't the case for my fellow windows users.

there is a temp fix until they fix it.

it worked on mine.. hopefully, will work on yours.

make sure itune is up,

then task manager

process then

find itune.exe

then right click then set priority then above normal

but everytime u close itune u will have to redo the step above till they get it fixed.(less than 10 seconds)

That lessens the skipping, but doesn't eliminate it entirely. It's at leats a temporary half-fix until Apple gets it done.
