Itunes slows my computer down, has anyone found out how to resolve?

yes. get MP3 software. iTunes uses 100% of your CPU when it "thinks" (opens, closes, disconnects/connects iPod, updates files, etc).

that's my suggestion.

This sounds like a problem specific to your PC - most people are OK with iTunes.

I'm just peeved at iTunes. Several updates have been made to iTunes since the blessed v4, and nothing has really changed. None of the important features have been added, and the sorting is still crap.

anyhoo, as far as my PC? it happens on my home unit (AMD Athlon XP, 1GB RAM), my work PC (Intel P4 3.2Ghz Prescott with 1GB RAM), and my friends PC (Intel P4), and my laptop, etc. It's not a PC problem because my PC at home doesn't have anything in common, really, with my one at work.

Well, go back to v4 then.

iTunes is like any other software package - each new release adds stuff, and the program gets bigger and uses more memory.

It's fine on my PC and lots of other folks', so I dunno what else to say.

Follow the instructions on the download page to install the LAME dll as well as the main program.

I had the same problem you did. I was looking through old threads and somebody said an old sound blaster program was interfering with iTunes.

I did not have a sound blaster program of any sort and couldn't find anything. Although it did feel like iTunes was fighting with another program.

I just found it about 2 minutes ago. The Santa Cruz sound board in my PC has a program that runs. You can adjust the volume through it and put an equilizer and such on it. I killed that and iTunes is running great.

Check for any audio control programs of any sort or anything dealing with your sound card. I bet that is what it is.

Well it sort of depends how many songs you have on your library. MP3's use a lot of usage because the way they are converted. IT also depends how much RAM you have because i had a 1 GB amount on my comp before i got a new one but it was sooo slow.
