Barometer in Android smart phones?

I'm curious, for almost 2 years they've had it, iPhones have not, why? If it truly improves GPS positioning, are we getting shafted or is it an overhyped sensor?

I have yet to see any reliable objective evidence, even after two years of inclusion of such sensors in other phones, that being able to sense barometric pressure has any significant effect on GPS accuracy or speed of determining position, the claims of Google and their licensees (such as Samsung) notwithstanding. Perhaps Apple has also not seen any such reliable data and hence has not decided to increase the cost of the iPhone by including such a sensor.
