Recently unable to receive incoming gmail messages and I have not changed any of my settings.
the actual message that pops up reads:
Cannot get mail
The mail server "imap.gmail.com" is not responding. Verify that you have entered the correct account info in mail settings.

Normally that is the "No wifi / internet" message. It isn't responding becasue wifi is not working.
Go to: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings . You will need to reenter you wifi password. No other info is deleted. Then power cycle your router. Disconnecting the power cord and wait 20 seconds, then reconnect.
But my wi fi is working. I can get on the Internet on Safari.
Kill the mail app from multitasking and try again.

Did you follow these steps to force an app to close?
