Scanning not working with Acrobat Pro X or Photoshop?

My Epson Artisan 730 scan perfectly fine using Image Capture.

I was unable to get anything but Image Capture to see the scammer. I use Image Capture and then move the results elsewhere.

I believe you need to install the TWAIN drivers from Epson for your scanner. Although they are listed as being supported only through 10.6.x, they should work with ML also. This will also install the Espon Scan application. You can get the drivers for your scanner here. The file name is epson13682.dmg.

Is there any part of your version of Photoshop 64 bit? The Epson TWAIN driver is only 32 bit, so that may be the difference. You mentioned in your first post that you installed the latest Photoshop TWAIN driver. I wonder if that is the problem. Is there a way you can go back to an earlier version of that part of Photoshop? I am not familiar with Photoshop.

That is a load of hooey: Software Update installs nothing for the scanner. And it doesn't supply the requisite Epson Scan Utility.

I am well aware of how Epson's pages are laid out. That is why I gave you the direct download link. The ICA drivers are for Image Capture. They do not use the TWAIN technology. When you are on EPSON's site, you have to override the browser sniffer and say that you are using OS X 10.6. Then you will see the Epson Scan software. Much easier just to give you a direct download link from their ftp server.

And yes, the ICA drivers probably were already installed with Mountain Lion. I think a universal ICA driver is supplied as part of ML for Canon and EPSON scanners. You can check by looking in the /Library/Image Capture/Devices folder for the EPSON ICA driver. You will find the TWAIN driver you just installed at /Library/Image Capture TWAIN Data Sources.

Photoshop used to support scanning directly into the application, years ago.

I don't believe that, for at least a couple of versions back, Photoshop any longer supports that workflow.

I have an Epson Perfection 3200 scanner and have used Apple's built-in scanning apps for years... or since Photoshop stopped allowing that.

Thanks for the input Wayne. I should have Googled for the answer before I posted before. Satchmo indicated use of Photoshop Extended is 13.0.1 which is CS6. There is a tech article from Adobe on the situation. The short version is that the scanner driver (presumably TWAIN) does have to be 64 bit to work as Photoshop in CS6 only runs in 64 bit mode. The latest EPSON TWAIN driver that I linked to is 32 bit only.

CS5 can run in 32 or 64 bit mode and the TWAIN plugin (yes now it is a plugin) works only if you start CS5 in 32 bit mode. If you start it in 64 the Twain Import menu simply is not listed in the menu.

Yeah, Apple users are a bit like the proverbial red-headed stepchild. Epson, Logitech, Intuit software, and others treat Windows users like their first born and update their stuff frequently. Meanwhile we are left on the sidelines.

I would not take Apple as responsible. The OS works and youa can use Adobe software and Epson Scanner.

It is responsability of one of these two to develop a driver to let the Scanner works with the Adobe Software.

Technically, the drivers have been updated. They just are not using TWAIN technology anymore. I will leave it to the reader to say whether that is a good or a bad update path. I still have a ton of floppy discs and ADB keyboards and mice that aren't doing me much good.
