Q: my home button is often un responsive.  Any ideas

I can clear out/ close out all apps, have fully charged battery, full signal, and randomly the home button will just not work.. I can press hard, or often, wait, all kinds of variations to no avail.   I have rebooted, restored, screamed, cussed.  all to no avail.

iPhone 4, iOS 5.1.1

if you already restored its most likely a hardware issue

I would take it into an apple store or call apple care

Plug your iphone in to computer and hold down home button util voice control pops up.  Hit the home button to exit and should be ok.  This fixed mine hope it helps!

I have this issue too and thought I was the only one. To mee it seems this has started after some app updates, as earlier this year I had never any issue like this at all.

My wife has had this issue, off and on, on her iPhone 4 since she dropped it a while back. Sometimes it works just fine, then for a couple days it doesn't work at all, then back to normal.

We found a work around for her on the days it doesn't work...

Go to Settings -> General -> Accessibility -> Assistive Touch

Turn this on, and you will see a floading white dod show up on the screen. This can be moved around by just dragging it. Tapping it brings up a window that allows you all of the functions of the Home button.

My wife is getting an iPhone5 in a couple days, so we're not worried about a hardware fix, but this should hold you over until you can get it fixed by an Apple rep.

Thanks! This is really a nice solution, didn't know it existed and never tried before. I will use this on bad days... and switch on/off when needed. I do not hink it's hardware, as now, as we speak, I am in the fluent zone and everything works as advertised.
