Q: Updating to iCloud email address

Nothing has been announced about this - all you can have seen are unsupported rumours - and we won't know until iOS6 is out, which will be very shortly.

Any news on this matter yet?

Not that I've seen - I did have a look round the Help pages but so far no mention. It may take a day or two to settle down - and remember that there has never been any official confirmation that this address will be available.

However I can confirm that as of this moment I don't have an @icloud.com version of my address, for what that's worth. (I don't have an iPhone either, so no iOS6, whatever relevance that might be.)

iLounge talks about it and even gives a screen shot.  But I can't find a similar situation on my iPhone.  I'm looking for some understanding on this too.

I did find that you can create an @icloud.com email as an ALIAS, but it is not considered a "primary account". I would refer from doing so if you want the opportunity of having your @icloud.com email address as a primary email instead of your @me.com though.

But incase you would want to create an @icloud.com adress as an alias, simply do this:

Go to icloud.com and sign in. Click on the Mail icon. Then click on the "Settings" icon in the top right corner (it looks like a gear) and then "Preferences". From here click on the "Accounts" menu (looks like an @ symbol). Lastly click at the "Add an Alias" at the bottom of the page. It will give you the option of creating an "alias" with an @icloud.com domain,

Once again, I do not recomend this but I just wanted to explain how to do this. Hope it somewhat helps...

Assuming their information to be authentic, the implication is that it will be a gradual process - after all there are I think 150 milion iCloud users, so if they are doing it alphabetically I will be near the back of a long queue (as always).

Good article, though - thanks for the link. I've no intention of getting an iPhone but I do like to know what's going on.

Thanks for the useful link. They don't state what will be the case with new subscribers, but I suppose the implication of what they say (and the appearance of the @icloud.com suffix in the pane for creating aliases) rather suggests that new @me.com addresses can't be created.
