Awesome. So reguardless of what international number I am FaceTiming with, on my data is affected. It has nothing to do with minutes or carrier time charges - just data is being used. Thanks!

That's right. Facetime is done over data, not voice, so the particulars of your voice plan (e.g., minute usage, etc.) do not apply.

Keep in mind, the cheapest way to do it is to use Wifi instead of cellular data.

Is Facetime free?

My cell serve is T-mobile, and I live in the states. I have been facetiming and calling a friend in the UK. T-mobile has a plan that allows for unlimited text on cell and unlimited talk on landlines. I was doing more facetiming then calls to the UK and my bill for a three week period came to $200.

T-mobile cannot distinguish between a call and a Facetime to let me know if I was being charged. They dropped all charges though (THANK GOD!!!).

I need to be sure I am not being charged to Facetime an iphone 5 used by my friend in the UK. I understand I will be charged for calls to the cell. Is it a fact there are no charges using Facetime via wifi?
