Is FaceTime free? I live in Denmark and call my friends back in Canada over FaceTime (both to their email address and cell phone number).  I am not concered with data usesage, I just want to know if I am charged for international calling if I FaceTime to an international number.

Thanks!

The app is free, it's part of iOS.  On iOS6 scheduled to be released today, you can do Facetime calls on cellular, at least in the US.

In terms of costs, there will be charges if you use it over cellular, depending on how your data plan is structured.  On wifi, of course, there is no fee.

FaceTime is free. However, if you count on using it over 3G with the new iOS6, some service providers are planning on charging the service.

Thanks guys, I am not really concered with data useage at all, but I am more concered if it will charge me for "minutes" used on my phone. i.e. if I FaceTime someone (on 3G or in WiFi) will I be charged per minute if I am calling from a Danish number to a Canadian number?

    Thanks.

It shouldn't charge by the minute like a phone call.  The only charges are against your data plan.

Awesome. So reguardless of what international number I am FaceTiming with, on my data is affected. It has nothing to do with minutes or carrier time charges - just data is being used.  Thanks!

That's right.  Facetime is done over data, not voice, so the particulars of your voice plan (e.g., minute usage, etc.) do not apply.

Keep in mind, the cheapest way to do it is to use Wifi instead of cellular data.

    Is Facetime free?

My cell serve is T-mobile, and I live in the states. I have been facetiming and calling a friend in the UK. T-mobile has a plan that allows for unlimited text on cell and unlimited talk on landlines. I was doing more facetiming then calls to the UK and my bill for a three week period came to $200.

T-mobile cannot distinguish between a call and a Facetime to let me know if I was being charged. They dropped all charges though (THANK GOD!!!).

I need to be sure I am not being charged to Facetime an iphone 5 used by my friend in the UK. I understand I will be charged for calls to the cell. Is it a fact there are no charges using Facetime via wifi?
