Try this.
Go to Settings>General>Date and Time>Set Automatically>Off. Set the date one year ahead. Try to update the apps again. If you get an error message, go back to the settings. Correct the date and time (set automatically) then go back and try to update the apps again.

Thank you so much!!! I have tried and tried for days to figure this out and I never would have guessed that would be the solution!!!!
Thanks a bunch!!
This works!! Thank you very much!!
Thanks a Great Work around !
🙂
Changing the time work for me, now passbook is working.
WOW! I was playing around with this for a couple of hours. your steps worked! Amazing. Thanks for the help 🙂
Worked for me as well!
Worked like a charm, although, have no idea how it is supposed to work yet. At least it stops with the error.
Wow! Strange solution, but it worked great!
I can't begin to imagine how you figured this out. The list of participating merchants is so pathetic that it may as well not be on my ipod. Just for kicks, I downloaded the Sephora choice. I then tried to scan a coupon and received the error message on my ipod touch "cannot read bar codes because there is no autofocus camera". Gee whiz. If QR codes are all that i can process with my touch, it really sinks what pitifully small expectations I had for Passbook after I performed the strange date work-around that is described above. I think Apple needs to re-think their philosophy that is being passed on either consciously or not that an Ipod Touch is NOT an I-Phone and don't confuse the two. I've downloaded so many apps that say they work on an Ipod Touch only to have them not work because of no wi-fi. Gee Whiz, why am I carrying around my cell phone if I think my Touch is my telephone? 😠😢 Why did I have to search the internet and play with my Ipod for several hours only to find that I can fly Lufthansa and buy a major league baseball ticket?😢
How do you reset an apple app? I followed The listed procedure above only to have no success.
solved my issue. thanks.
Solved my issue. Thanks a bunch!!!
Four attempts with no success. Perhaps I am confused on the update apps. The phone is connedcted to iTunes and there are no updates, read... everything is up to date??
This DID NOT solve my issue. I am still getting the "Cannot connect to iTunes Store" error message.
