Apr 2, 2013 2:21 PM in response to Apples endby KiltedTim,Maybe you should have checked the system requirements for the phone, which are clearly printed on the box and the marketing materials, BEFORE you bought it.

Apr 2, 2013 2:28 PM in response to shynskiby Apples end,The point is that you shouldn't have to do any of this! We are paying a lot of money for apparenetly very advanced equipment. So advanced that it can't sync with an 8 year old computer made by the same manufacturer? It is nonsense and should be screamed from the roof tops. We would not accept this in any other walk of life. Can you imagine buying a new cooker and finding out that it operated at a diffrent voltage so that you had to go and buy a transformer to plug it in before you could cook your dinner? What apple are currently doing is diabolical. There is no excuse they can reasonably come up with for this mess. They should fix it quickly and make a very public apology.

Apr 2, 2013 2:33 PM in response to KiltedTimby Apples end,You wouldn't do that with a car would you? Imagine buying a new car and then finding that none of the petrol pumps would fit in it. You have to buy a new adaptor or wait for a new petrol station to be constructed to use it. A compmay that makes computer equipment can EASILY make older equipment compatible with new equipment becuase it made it all in the first place! It just needs to upgrade the older softawre to fit the older architecture. There should be a legal requirement for this. It is profoundly environmentally destructive to demand everyone throw away all fo the their hardware after 5 years. Apple will be irreperably damaged by all of this.

Apr 2, 2013 2:35 PM in response to Apples endby KiltedTim,No. It can't sync with an 8 year old computer. Technology marches on. This isn't the world of cars or kitchen appliances.
I had a 1976 Honda motorcycle back in the day. My cousin's son drives it now. Still runs like a champ.
Guess what, Apple didn't even exist when that bike was built...
Your computer pre-dates the original iPhone... Why do you think the 6th generation of the device, running the 6th major revision of the operating system, should have to work with your otherwise perfectly functional, but decidedly ancient Mac?
Apple is DOOMED! DOOMED, I SAY!

Apr 2, 2013 2:37 PM in response to Apples endby KiltedTim,You're living in some kind of alternate reality if you believe this stuff. Either that or your just a troll. In an effort to give you the benefit of the doubt, I'll assume it's the former.

Apr 2, 2013 2:37 PM in response to Mr. McMacby Apples end,Completely agree with you. Apple needs to act fast to retain any credibility at all - I too am going back to the shop to get rid of the iphone5. QED.

Apr 2, 2013 3:09 PM in response to Apples endby Radiation Mac,Do you REALIZE that the HD encoded TV shows now being shown all over the US are NOT(!) viewable in HD on 8 YEAR OLD Televisions purchased here in the US??!!! My, gawd! I say we overthrow the government for allowing this to happen to us all.

Apr 2, 2013 3:55 PM in response to KiltedTimby Apples end,Tragically the technology isn't marching on..... Can you tell me how the iPhone 5 has marched on from the iPhone 4? And how the latest mac computer has marched on from my 8 year old one? I don't think march is quite the right analogy - stumble around in the dark is closer...... The point is that old microsoft systems are perfectly capable of connecting to iPhone 5!! Address the issues and stop resorting to abusive sentiment - I'd rather be a Troll than be incapable of critical thought. If Microsoft can do it, why can't Apple? If they can't they really are doomed - and stop kidding yourself otherwise!

Apr 2, 2013 4:00 PM in response to KiltedTimby Apples end,Tragically not alternate - wish it were - it is the real world where apple can't make it's own equipment software compatible - anyone who knows anything about the apple Microsoft battles of old will appreciate the irony but not those holding their head in their hands in utter disbelief.

Apr 2, 2013 4:20 PM in response to Radiation Macby Apples end, calculate the actual cost of making 7 billion TVs, computers, cars, and phones every 3-5 years - I'm not sure how realistic your view of the future is - speaking of reality as it were.....

Apr 2, 2013 5:25 PM in response to djtnycby rabbitjetta,Imagine if we were all using OS 9 and windows 98, imagine what the things we used would be like. We need advancements. You can either get a new computer, or not use a computer with your iphone at all and just use icloud.

Apr 2, 2013 6:34 PM in response to rabbitjettaby Apples end,If I was still using windows 98 I might stand a hells chance of connecting to the iphone5...... I have little faith of putting my data in the clouds - unless I am standing within 2 feet of my brand new optical fibre router the iphone5 can't see it - meanwhile the old decrepit iPhone 3 my son is now using can happily work on Wifi at the bottom of our garden - through 1m stone walls!! - what was all that banter about reality and progress?? In the real world the new stuff is not as good as the old stuff - that is the very real problem for apple - about as real as it comes I'm afraid...... If I can't get rid if this thing tomorrow - I will be switching to iPhone 3 and my 6 year old son will have the iphone5 - he will definitely read more books that way. If this is progress in your reality, it's all yours for the keeping.
