Q: passbook doesn't work

Hi.

After installing iOS6 I can't get Passbook to work.

I load it and my only option to click is App Store, which then loads the App store and says 'Cannot connect to iTunes Store'.

Suggestions?

So let me get this straight;  This supposedly big change to the IOS that adds this life changing application "Passbook" doesn't do what we all hoped or expected it to do.  Somebody please tell me I'm wrong.

I guess I was expecting this to work to replace all of these loyalty cards from airlines, hotels etc as well as keep my hotel stay's, flight itineraries/boarding passes, cupons, tickets and other things handy right on my phone.  No more fumbling around printed out copies of itineraries and hotel bookings, or digging through emails to find the info.  It would just be there on my phone through this revolutionary app.

But wrong again.  So far this app lets me add only a select few companies (10 to be exact - most of which are of no use to me).  I download those apps, and whoalla nothing happens.  I go to the app, add in my United Airlines info, and once again, go to passbook, and NOTHING HAPPENS.  I just get the App store picture, press it and it asks me to download the same apps.

I have no option to create a loyalty card for another airline besides Lufthansa or United.  Then I research and people say use this Passsource.com site to create passes.  Yet, for this you have to go through a TON of programming to create a pass, and even then it doesn't do it because now I have to sign up for $8 a month to be able to create passes.

ARE YOU SERIOUS?  Please tell me I'm in the wrong here, because this has to be one of the most disapointing apps I've ever encountered.  And this is one of Apple's biggest new feature...

Can anyone explain if I've got it wrong?

Well the date change technique seems to suggest it wasn't set to be active until at least the 21st. I set my date to the 22nd to get it to work. So tomorrow or the next day it will probably come to life for everyone, and since it is new, it will no doubt take some time for vendors to get on board, but I imagine they will...alot of them. IOS6 only rolled out yesterday, but the iphone 5 is released the 21st. I am going to just relax and take it in stride. It will be resolved and probably is all set to come together after iphone 5s are activated all over the place.

So Apple is banking on all these other companies to create passbook apps for this to work out?  What if a company decides not to do it, shouldn't we have some way to input the loyalty card or whatever in ourselves??? I'm patient but this goes beyond my patience.  I expect some minor problems on an inital launch, but when you hype something like they have with passbook, for it not to work or for it not be a very usable product initially, then I feel its a major mistake/fail on their part.

Another silly and useless Apple product to hide away in the CrapApp folder together with Game Centre.

Its is amazing that Apple market their systems with the intention of improving communication but then make no effort to communicate to their users (customers) or should I say sheep. If the Passbook isnt going to work until sometime in the future wouldn't it be sensible to tell people that?

Finally got one thing to work on Passbook.  I used the passsource website through my iphone and created a W hotel itinerary.  This worked and made a pass.  Now when I open passbook, I see my W hotel stay and when I flip the card over, it gives the itinerary details.

What it still does not do is put in all my W Hotel/SPG member information into a seperate card.  This is what I was hoping this would really be able to do.  I'm tired of carrying a portfolio of cards around with me when I travel, which is all the time.

Can someone please post how you add the app to passbook? We've all seen how to get passbook to work now please say how to add apps.

In Canada there are only 4 apps available so far.

How did you add the Lufthansa app?

I haven't been able to add anything from the apps once I download them.  However I was able to add in my W Hotel stay, Best Buy Card, Starwood Hotel card and Delta Sky Miles by using the website www.passsource.com

Only use that site though on your iphone because it will allow you to add in once you are done the card/itinerary right into passbook and then passbook shows all the cards.  The sad thing is this is a PAIN IN THE BACK END to do.  I hope that I wont have to keep inputing manually all these cards into a website that creates the passbook card.  If so, this app is worthless.

I agree, is there a reason why we can just scan our cards in like scanning a barcode in to eBay or amazon? I find this app pretty useless if I have to manually type everything into an app

Passbook doesn't work on my 4S , but on my wife's 3Gs it does.  Seems to be something that rolled out too earlier , hopefully the update is forthcoming.

Same problems here.  I'm disappointed but I can wait a day or two to see if they fix it.
