Sep 20, 2012 7:49 PM in response to arizonadonnby Aggrofish,So we all know by now that this is once again a part of the Apple Hype machine where they are pushing out a software before its truly ready and with little explanation to appease the masses. So here's what we know:
1. Once downloaded it doesn't work consistently unless you trick the iPhone by changing the date one year into the future.
2. Even when you do that, only a handful of companies have passbook enabled their products. Those apps are available to download but some create passes upon creation, some only create passes upon booking events and some are still not ready.
3. Apples claim of the App being able to contain loyalty cards in addition to coupons, gift cards, commerce sites (like Starbucks) and event passes does not work at this point in time. The third party site Passsource.com was only to be used for developers to test passbook in Beta by creating pre-set amounts, sores etc. this should not be used for iOS final release for consumers.
Several sites have said be patient but Apple has once again refused to comment officially upon all of these questions. Hopefully, Apple will create their own portal to add the loyalty cards. Hopefully they will create a user guide on how to fully use this app. Unfortunately, their silence only indicates that this will be another example of pushing something that they didn't fully think out like Ping and Newstand that will go away unless they wAke up and read these comments (ie simplicity of Keyring or Cardstar in addition to the app as they intended).

Sep 20, 2012 8:40 PM in response to arizonadonnby smorr32,I was having this same issue on my IPhone 4s here is what I did step by step and mine is currently working! Also THEIR IS more apps then just Walgreens and Fandango when you get into the Passbook,
-Settings
-General
-Date & Time
-Turn off Set Automatically
-Set Date & Time
Here is the key, set the date 2 years ahead!!!
Click out and go back and try Passbook
THis should fix the issue then you can go back to steps above and set the year to correct! Good luck as this DID work for me!

Sep 20, 2012 8:48 PM in response to Aggrofishby MichaelTemple,I have been an apple fan for years and I was really looking forward to using Passbook for all these loyalty cards.
This is obviously a huge disappointment and a significant point of frustration.
The issues have been well discussed here so I will not rehash.
I was wondering if anyone who created a loyalty card through Pass Source has actually tried to use it?
I created a CVS card and a Kroger Plus card through Pass Source. Went to Kroger and CVS and neither card was readable at checkout. Neither one worked. Just wondering if Pass Source cards are working for anyone?

Sep 20, 2012 11:16 PM in response to MichaelTempleby Lapkritinis,Not every bar code scanner is able to scan codes from a screen.
For example I buy cinema tickets via Internet, I receive a PDF file containing tickets, but I have to print them on paper as scan codes reader is not able to "read" the code from screen, only from paper.
Another topic is that many many loyalty cards have magnetic stripe on them and thats how you "present" card at the store. I guess there is no way for iphone to "mimick" this functionality.

Sep 21, 2012 2:17 AM in response to MichaelTempleby olypdd,I think if it doesn't work on the 21st or thereafter, then we have a valid complaint. I also think it will evolve into something very useful. I couldn't get it to work until I changed my phones date to the 22nd. I think it was set to go into action on the 21st.

Sep 21, 2012 5:39 AM in response to MichaelTempleby mlmlmn,Exactly. Has anyone actually used this App in a real store. Without function all the other chatter about a fix is noise. Remember location based reminders?

Sep 21, 2012 7:48 AM in response to mlmlmnby Tgara,Guys, the new User Guide for iOS 6 is now published and available at the Support, Manuals link on Apple's site.
Here is a portion of the chapter that talks about Passbook:
Add a pass to Passbook: Tap Add to Passbook on a merchant’s website or in a confirmation email. You can also add a pass from a Passbook-enabled app.
You must be signed in to your iCloud account to add passes to Passbook.
Store your gift cards, coupons, tickets, and other passes in Passbook. When you need to see or use a pass, view it in Passbook or on the Lock screen. There is also this:
Prevent passes from appearing on your Lock screen:
Go to Settings > General > Passcode Lock, tap Turn Passcode On, then go to Allow Access When Locked, and turn Passbook off.Push a pass to your other iPhone or iPod touch:
Go to Settings > iCloud and turn on Passbook.Sorry for the crummy indenting.... I was copying this from a PDF.

Sep 21, 2012 12:42 PM in response to arizonadonnby keridwn72,After installing iOS6 I can't get Passbook to work.
I load it and my only option to click is App Store, which then loads the App store and says 'Cannot connect to iTunes Store'.
Suggestions?
Kerry

Sep 21, 2012 5:34 PM in response to arizonadonnby bakersx3,I too had to change my date one year ahead to just bypass the app store error. I am very dissapointed. The comercial, videos on apples home page about IOS 6 led you to believe this was going to be a useful tool. Even after opening the apps recomended by the passbook app, I can not get it to look anything like the projected videos. It is very dissapointing, I miss Steve Jobbs...
