Q: passbook doesn't work

Hi.

After installing iOS6 I can't get Passbook to work.

I load it and my only option to click is App Store, which then loads the App store and says 'Cannot connect to iTunes Store'.

Suggestions?

I had the same problem.  I called Apple and they seemed uncertain.  After checking I was told there is a bug in the product and it should be fixed in the next two days.  Wow.  How did that get passed QA?

This thread has answered some of the questions I had about Passbook, except one:

When you use the "App Store" button in Passbook, you end up getting the 'Cannot connect to iTunes Store' message in the "App Store" app. That much has been mentioned. But what hasn't been mentioned (that I saw) is the fact that once this happens, the  "App Store" app continues to refuse to connect to the iTunes store until you shut it down, then restart it directly (that is, not through the Passbook app). How the heck did such a critical flaw get through the QC process?

The change year fix didn't work for me.  I could see the available passbook apps but it would not download amd install new apps.  therefore i had to do more.

Settings - General - iTunes and App Stores

For some reason my Apple ID was blank.  Enter your information and sign in.  Sign back out and back in.  Set back up your defaults for auto downloads.

Hold down the home and power button until the screen goes black and the white Apple logo appears.

All was well for me after that.

http://passsource.com shows "Apple Store Card" in the public lineup. Your Apple CSR must have been high or something.

Whether its listed there or not is irrelevant. www.passsource.com isn't an Apple website. I shouldn't have to go to a third party website and add my Apple gift card to Passbook... Just sayin.

That's true, but it is the only current option if you want to use the app. PassSource itself is still in beta. I am wondering if that has anything to do with Passbook not working. IMHO Passbook is not ready for prime time and should have been left out.

Any app. be it Walgreens or United should AUTOMATICALLY be uploaded to passbook. No 3rd party no work arounds. Plus it shows gift cards for a whole list of stores too!

The date switch worked for me... The second time.   Make sure you close your passbook app, I did not close it the first attempt. (Dbl click home button - long hold on passbook app - tap red x). The change you date up on year ( settings - general -date & time) you will have to disable "Set Automatically"  then the Set Date &Time option appears.  Set the year to 2013.   Go back to time and date and hit your Home button again.  Just a heads up your email servers might freak out you may get a few pop ups.  Now open Passbook.   It should work.  Kind of strange, my wife's worked from the first try.  Mine I had to do the steps above.  Now go fix you date, you can just enable the automatic feature.

I installed the Target app and signed up to get coupons via my phone.  It was an easy way to test passbook with out buying anything.

    Hope it works,

    Doc

What pigeonor wrote is correct. It really does work, don't know why, but if you follow what he said to do, your passbook will work afterwards

I set the time forward only by one month and this worked as well.

As noted, setting time one year ahead may actually be beyond certificate expiration on your Exchange server

Worked with me with just changing September to October. I am in the UK, so for me it was a Lufthansa app.

    Thanks for the tip though.
