Aperture 3.4 is out...
But remember to backup before you update. 🙂

Is there a download link for those who didn't purchase Aperture in the Mac App Store?
Backing up the earlier copy of the app as well , in a zip file, is wise (ie, to match a backed up copy of earlier version of library).
I just launched the new version - it is again a major update that needs to upgrade the Aperture library; so there will be no way back, if no backup of the Aperture library is available.
And rememberig the trouble we had with the Aperture 3.3. update, nobody should do the update without repairing the Aperture library before trying to upgrade, if there is the least doubt, that the Library is in perfect working condition 😉
You also apparently need OS X 10.8.2 to install the update.
Or 10.7.5, which also came out today.
O'm having the same trouble. Tried everything mentioned here but still a no go, and I have the same EXC error as posted. THanks in advance!

OS X 10.8.2 or OS X Lion 10.7.5

It looks to me like the update has been pulled from the App store, I had it there a minute ago and it had started downloading, now it has disappeared.
@boyhollywood Did you reinsall the app (from source media)?

I'm not seeing it -- 21:00 EST Wed 19 September 2012.
I am seeing a 10.8.2 update, and an MBPr update (EFI 1.0 ??).
Seriously good advice:

Backup, Repair, confirm, then update. (Applies always ... though as of right now the update has been removed from the App Store.)

Your lucky, it does not work. Aperture will not open after update.
Mine updated, but it won't open. It ultimately clobbered the library. Now I'm in an endless loop of starting and crashing. This is a disaster.
