shiftlock key not working for some keyrows

My new Macbook Air does not allow the shiftlock key to command the keys with numbers (second row from above beneath the Function keys row) to be locked into the uppercase ((I have a French keyboard according to which this row features the numbers).

Can I set-up my keyboard such that the shiftlock also locks the keys of this number row?

Thank you in advance for the advice and best regards,

C.Boon

I had the same problem, which is now solved by doing this:

System Preferences > Keyboard>Input Sources>select in list: French> French - numerical. Even if its a bit suprising, as I'm based in Belgium, and I often need to write in other languages (Dutch, English...) but at least I have the numbers when shift lock is on...

Thanks

Actually this had bugged me for some time, especially, as on my Work's Windows PC all I had to do was hit Caps Lock.

I did as was directed, and one thing to remember is only click French Numeric - and make sure the French keyboard option is unclicked.

If both were clicked, it wouldn't work for me.

As an aside - After 15 years in France, I can honestly say, I am now rubbish in both Qwerty and Azerty keyboards, as any skill I used to have with Qwerty, has been destroyed, and Azerty still seems alien.

And I have never met any French person who can explain why Azerty layouts, especially the numbers should be as they are, apart for the "vive le difference" nonsense they spout.

Anyway thanks for pointing me towards sorting this very frustrating problem.

Continuing my research, I found a solution but not an explanation.

The solution: change typing method to "French keyboard - numerical" or something similar (my OSX is in French, so I don't know the exact wording of the option in English). This is in "Preferences / Language & text / Input method".

The question remaining: why did it change? There was and still is only one method, so it's not a question of switching to an alternative one. And I'm 10% sure that I didn't change that...

Hi, I've the same issue, since 1 week more or less.

To explain to our non-french colleagues: on AZERTY keyboard, you have to be in uppercase to type figures, while in lowercase, you access to the symbols like accentued characters: é, è, à. So if you have long numbers to write, one usually uses the caps-lock key for that. And this works and used to work for years, on any system I know - I guess these are the standard AZERTY keyboard specs.

Now, the issue I encounter is that when I use the caps-lock key is that I still have the symbols, but the accentued characters become uppercase: É È À. This is new and quite annoying...

Even with unclicking French, I still encounter the issue, it is reset and the Numerical option is lost. Or to be more precise "encountered" and "was": this didn't happen anymore for about a week now. Why? I've no clue, at all. Nothing changed, no software update, no keybord change, nothing. It vanished...

And I've no clue about Azerty behaviour, I do agree with you. But being used to it much more than qwerty (and not mentioning the Swiss qwertz layout), I don't want to change 🙂
