Is there Passbook on iPad 3 (The New iPad)?
Does the update to iOS 6 have it to get Passbook on The New iPad/iPad 3? Or is it just for iPhones and iTouches? Just curious to know is all.
The New iPad (iPad 3)-OTHER, iOS 5.1.1

Yes. Actually I do want to whip it out. I do it all the time. Admittedly, I do take just my phone (Android) when I run downstairs to get lunch. But while I am flying, etc.
But let me make that decision. Don't restrict me from software functionality because of the limitations of the form factor.
I hadn't noticed that the iPad got a clock. But Apple supplied the apps. Is there a reason that I don't get the choice of using the app on whichever Apple device I had open?
I'm at the airport reading a book on my iPad. Oh, Apple decided I shouldn't use passbook with the iPad, Apple thinks I should not have even have the option to do it my way.
Yes I do want to use it on whichever device I have out. Preferably the one with a large enough of a form factor to not require me to get out my reading glasses.
Right. I am at the airport reading a book. But because passbook isn't on the ipad, I am not getting notifications about the status of my flight. I have to get out another device to check in rather than just hand over the iPad on which I am reading things already.
That's dumb.

How about to a concert? Or a movie? Or a baseball game? Would you carry your iPad then?
I don't necessarily disagree with you on this, but don't tell me, pal. Tell Apple.
Well, we are writing this on Apple's support site, hoping that they are watching and working out the use-cases. 🙂
I regularly carry my iPad when I go to movies beacuse I tend to have a bag with me. Or my iPad, in its folio case, is a basic notebook. Honestly, I tend not to go to events that LiveNation sells tickets to. So between movies, grocery stores, and flights, I think I capture almost all of the cases that I would be using a loyalty card.
There are cases where I don't, but then it could sync across devices with iCloud.
It looks like this will be even more acute when the iPad mini comes out. It sure looks like the form-factor will fit in an external suit pocket on a man's suit. So you would expect to use it there too. And it looks like those will be small enough to fit easily in a lot of mid-size purses for women.
I do admit that it is easier to hand over a phone for scanning at a grocery store, but they also have hand scanners for scanning larger things.
Again, let the user choose.
+1 for PassBook on iPad.
no isn't in the ipad 3
I agree with you. I take my iPad everywhere & I don't want to be carrying two devices. I'm retired now & have my meds, iPad, parking change, & doctor referral slips in a iPad size bag with 5 pockets. So yes it would have been nice to see the Passbook included for the iPad HD. I'm starting to see a pattern with Apple but, oh well, the upgrade was free & who knows it might come as 6.01---------😉😁

Don't you carry a cell phone of some kind too? What happens if you need to call an ambulance because you fell down reaching for the parking change?
Who needs a cell phone? I use my iPad, a bluetooth headset and Skype. $35 for the iPan 5gb LTE plan, $10 for Skype Canada & USA unlimited to any phone number. And I bought an Online number for $35/yr so ppl can call me like it was a regular phone from any landline or cell. So for $45/m plus a $35 annual subscription I am getting what many people pay $100/m for and only carry one device.
Make that +2 for PassBook on iPad.
I have an ipad 3 4g+wifi, although I don't have the 4g enabled. I use it wifi only for now. I DO whip mine out for Stabucks gift card app - no problem. They have wifi at about every Starbucks. That iphone4 paper weight is just too small for my getting-old eyes. I really don't care what it looks like when I have the counter person scan my ipad.
I too would like Passbook for the iPad.
Right now I am figuring out how to scan my bar codes on my discount cards to pdf, email them to myself, then drop them into iBooks. Yes, I am using iBooks as a faux Passbook app.
I got the Starbucks app update today, and either it or Passbook asked
me to pick a local Starbucks, which I did.
Later on I went to a Starbucks and tried to use either. I forgot,
when Starbucks app updated once before, it forgot my password. So I
couldn't use the Starbucks app, as I don't keep all of my passwords
with me. (The Starbucks app also won't let me have it run on both my
iPhone and my iPad for some reason, unless that has changed recently).
I opened Passbook, and see a screen with:
Boarding Passes
Tickets
Store Cards
Coupons
[App Store]
I tried opening these, but the only one that opens is [App store],
which had a list of passbook apps to download.
Maybe it isn't important that I don't have Passbook on my iPad,
because I can't figure it out at all.
I must say that bringing Siri to the iPad was one of the better things about iOS 6. I realize that it isn't the most helpful thing on an iPad, and it is much better when used on an iPhone because you can get Internet everywhere (basically) but it the the fact that I can choose whether I want to use Siri or not on my iPad.
The same holds true for passbook. It may be impractical in some cases but there will always be situations where users will feel incredibly frustrated that they can do something entirely based in software on their iPhone, but not on their iPad and vice versa. There really isn't anything stopping apple from putting passbook on iPads (except lack geolocation and cellular on wifi models) so why do they restrict us?
