Of course I think is a Hardware problem. We all know that iPhone have overheating problems when charging and if you doesn't realize that your iPhone is overheating it could damage any chip on the phone, in this case the Wifi chip is the dead one.

Did you try to do a Reset to an New In The Box iPhone vs. a Restore with your specific Settings and Files?  If not go back to iTunes and do not Restore with Backup ...but rather Reset without your Backup.

I just wanted to post what worked for me.

I currently have version 6.0.1 on my iPhone 4S. I tried everything mentioned here short of restoring or updating my phone due to it being the weekend and all of my media is on my PC at the office. I was planning on trying those fixes on Monday.

Anyway, my battery ran down extraordinarily fast today. I wasn't using it any more than normal. Less, actually because I didn't want to run up my cell usage. So by about 8pm it was completely dead. So I plugged it in to charge and left it. At 2am I crawl into bed and unplug my phone from its charger and decided to check my email before going to sleep. It was then that I realized that I now have WiFi!

So to recap, all I did was let it run down to the point it shuts itself off. Plug it in let it charge to full. Unplug it. Done.

It's what worked for me. Maybe it will work for some others that haven't found another solution.

I've been having problems with my wifi on my 4s iPhone all week while travelling without my computer. Upgraded to iOS6 (when i finally got it to find a wifi network) in hopes that it would fix the problem of disconnecting and not finding wifi connections that I know are there (travelling companions iPhones all work fine). After the upgrade wifi was greyed out and can't turn on.  Restarted several times, no luck.  Hard restart several times, no luck. Finally, closed all programs running and did another hard restart - success!!!  No plugging into a computer necessary or restoring. Hope this helps all you similarly frustrated people out there.

My wifi button just greyed out yesterday, I can't get it back on. I'm not sure why because I've had ios6 since last November and it just started messing up.

Happened to me today even everything was fine up 'til then even with 6.1.3

I have tried all solutions but either I get the button to switch on WiFi but it cannot find any networks or, with airplane mode activated I get a list of networks, but then says cannot connect.

I´ve already set e-mail notifications off, but I keep getting e-mail notifications about the updates in this topic. Where/Who/How do I complain about it?

  • BrianHandley Level 1 Level 1

I tried this exactly as per Apple link but in my case, under Settings>General, a Wi-Fi address is showing but still will not connect, even after resetting the network settings.

I am completely frustrated. I shall try and get a new phone from Apple. Seeme to be the only way.

Really odd ! After fiddling about with the settings and leaving the iPhone to rest for a while, the Wi-Fi works again. For how long I don't know. I can't figure out what I did exactly or what, specifically, made it work.

I am keeping my fingers crossed.

same problem i cant turn on the wi-fi button what shud i do??? WTH!

  • BrianHandley Level 1 Level 1

My WiFi button is ok now, after doing the thing with the airplane mode.

I left the phone swotched off all night. connection re-appeared, this morning, but was lost after about 30 mins and, it will not re-connect or recognise any networks.

    It must be hardware related.
