Do Not Disturb not working iOS 6

Updated my iPhone 4 to iOS 6 about 90 minutes ago and have been looking through the new features since.

Do Not Disturb is not working, I've set the schedule (in notifications) and switched on in settings but phone rings normally despite being in the quiet period. Anyone else having the same problem?

I've been using this feature when I had the GM installed. Just make sure that the "Scheduled" slider is set to ON and that the time settings are correct. If you have "Allow Calls From" set to Favorites and the call is from someone in your faves, its not going to mute the call. It will just go through like normal. Try setting it to "No One" and give it a whirl.

NOTE: During unscheduled hours, the Do Not Disturb slider will be set to OFF. During will have the slider set to ON.

Ahh, so that's it!

I had the opposite problem - outside the scheduled quiet hours, I was not getting any rings, notifications, etc.

What I did was first set up the schedule, then also turn Do Not Disurb ON. I had thought you had to do both to enable the quiet hours. But now I learned that turning it ON manually means unconditionally on. I didn't realize that during the quiet hours schedule it would automatically enable it.

Thanks for clearing this up!

Secondary question:

If I have my Do Not Disturb scheduling set from say, 2:00am-7:30am every day, and when I go to sleep at 11:00 pm, will Do Not Disturb be turned OFF at 7:30 the next morning? Or will it continue to stay on because I turned it on manually?

Bottom line: I would like Do Not Disturb to automatically turn OFF every morning, regardless of how it was turned ON (via schedule or manually).

Agree mheidt.

Do Not Disturb means don't disturb me - period. What if I am in a business meeting or library or theater using my phone and a call comes through? Or, as you say, a clock is running at night? Then, you're getting disturbed and the feature is useless.

Hopefully, they can add an option, like "Only when locked" that you can turn on or off for your needs.

Yes, seriously.

Think of the situation - you turn on Do Not Disturb because you're in a quiet library. When the screen is dark and it's locked, you get no disruptions - great! But, now you take the phone out and unlock it, to quietly check your mail. A phone call comes in and loudly rings your phone, disturbing everyone in the library. Aren't you embarrassed?

DND only silences your phone when it's locked, and if you're reading mail, sending a text, etc. then of course it's unlocked and if a call comes in you get disrupted. In this case, "Do Not Disturb" did indeed disturb you.

If should not ring the phone or show notifications whenever DND is on, locked or not. Or, the best way is to provide an option to disable notifications when it's unlocked.

It is pretty obvious that you totally misunderstand the whole concept of DND... And while you clearly do, you insist on pointing out its "faults"

It is meant for situations where you can't or don't want to "take the phone out unlock it and quietly check your mail". For example you won't check your mail when you go to sleep and don't want to be disturbed, or during a meeting where you won't be checking your phone every now and then and again you won't want to be disturbed. It's about not disturbing you, not the others around you.

If it's a library or a theatre you want to be, just switch it to silent as all cellular users do and did for more than a decade now without any inconvenience or embarrassment.
