yeah, my earlier reported success after upgrading to the latest itunes was indeed a fluke.

    it's back to sporadic connections.

i still have the best results with my ios devices UNPLUGGED from power. i have an iphone and an ipad and i have one charger near my laptop and usually have either one or the other plugged in. when i start itunes, 9 times out of 10, whichever device is NOT plugged into power will show up for wifi sync in itunes. i know that is exactly backwards from what apple says, but that is my experience. i can generally get the other device to show up by UNPLUGGING it from power and waiting 30 seconds or so.

it's a lot of extra hassle compared to the old days when it really did "just work" 100% of the time and instantly.

I called Apple Suppport, they told me that plugged or unplugged to power does not make any difference..It is suppose to work either way now.

I Have had this problem for ages, and I have found something that has so far worked for my iPhone 4 and iPad so thought I would share it, I'm sorry but I only know the windows version of this but I'm sure mac users can adapt it.

with iTunes running do a cntl-alt-del and choose task manager and then click on the services tab, scroll down the long list till you find apple mobile device, right click on it and choose stop service, or pause service,, but DO NOT delete it or you may not be able to sync your device at all, now close task manager and close iTunes, restart I tunes, plug your device into a power supply and it should come up, has worked for me for a while now.

hope this help and has not been suggested before,, way to many replies to read them all.

Forgot to say, connect device my cable one last time and untick and tick sync by wifi for that device....

iOS 7 Beta 1 Sync - Known Issues:  The Wi-Fi sync option in iTunes is checked, but Wi-Fi devices do not appear in iTunes. Workaround:  On OS X, install the iOS 7.0 SDK after installing iTunes. Wi-Fi sync is not supported on Windows.

I wonder if it will be supported on Windows by the final release or if they've thrown in the towel.

Mac users just need to disconnect and reconnect to the local network (many ways to do this). No need to restart iTunes, my iDevices instantly show up and sync perfectly after reconnecting... repeat the process when necessary. I can't confirm this works for everyone, but it's worked 100% of the time for me for months.

Not my idea, I can't remember who I first saw mention it many months ago (maybe Pagemakers4?). I mention this quick-but-temporary fix once in awhile on this horribly long thread.

I’ve had this problem since I updated to ios6 and I use a MacBook Pro.  I go to the ios device and switch a couple of app icons around and then do an “ iTunes Wi-Fi Sync” on the device. This works most of the time. This also works if I do the sync from iTunes on my MacBook but since I have to go to the ios device I just start it from there.

WiFi sync has always been very occasionally flaky... but usually re-launching iTunes solves the issue (MacPro desktop, iPad mobile device). Now it doesn't work AT ALL and nothing I have tried has brought it back. Somehow it has only been in the last few days; when was the last iTunes update?

Read something about a "AppleMobileDeviceHelper" being some process that one can quit and relaunch, but no such thing shows up in Activity Monitor, nor in file content search for the whole machine, nor much from apple's website.

My desktop is hard wired to the router, it works just fine (i.e. connecting to the Net). My iPad also continues to work just fine, connecting to the outside.

And yes, I disconnected and re-connected (i.e. Airplane mode) to no avail.

Now I see 98% of the complaints out there are from M$ OS users, but I use OS X because I believed "it just works." So what do we do when "it just doesn't work" and all we get is stony silence from Cupertino?

I don't know if this is a coincidence, but today I had a way more trouble than usual connecting my iPhone 4s to iTunes on my Mac Pro (still on Mountain Lion).

In the past, disconnecting and reconnecting my Mac to my network (byunplugging and replugging in my ethernet cord) always fixed any issue with the connection between iTunes. It literally worked 100% of the time, instantly, for many months. But today, it didn't work, even after several tries, and after trying a few different things as well.

Eventually, my iPhone showed up. The last action I took was unplugging my Mac Pro from the network, I initiated the sync from my iPhone, then I plugged in Mac Pro back in... Finally, the iPhone showed up in iTunes.

Lemme tell you, dealing with computer issues just should not involve so much voodoo!

Yes, I read about pulling the Ethernet cord from my desktop, but I just could NOT see how that could possibly fix this sync issue. Especially given that my desktop had ZERO issues connecting to the net, both for my MMO and every other connection I make, none of them were at all having any issues. Which also means it was communicating with my router just fine.

Long story, but my router is temporarily in a different place than normal (last 3 months) and is actually more accessible than where I'd normally have it. So I said, ***, and pulled the connection to my desktop, then immediately plugged it back in. Guess what?

WiFi sync w/my iPad works again!

Wot da frak?? How can this be?

Because it forces the router and computer 'relationships: connections' to refresh in some way. I do not know what this is called, but surely someone in this forum will have the name for what this is. I think you can accomplish the same sort of thing by turning off wi-fi on your computer for about 10 secs. and then back on. This somehow stimulates iTunes to see the devices (that it previously had not been seeing). Yes, it is temporary, but it's quick and easy and at least works for the moment.

Thank you so much.  This worked immediately.  I had even lugged my 27" iMac and iPhone in to the Genius bar and they couldn't figure out my problem, because of course it worked while I was there.  You are my hero.  This hasn't been working on my iPhone 5 for a couple of months even with all of the latest computer and iPhone updates.

OK, I've been following this thread for over a year and have generally gotten things to work by restarting iTunes or restarting WiFi or both. I did do the hostname correction suggested early on and that helped but nothing has been a complete solution.

I just tried the HTTP proxy and it worked the first time for both my iPhone 5 and iPad 3, but... (there had to be a but). On the iPhone only, when HTTP proxy is set to auto, the Apple TV remote on the iPhone cannot connect and Home Sharing on the iPhone cannot be enabled, Interestingly, other device control apps such as Squeezebox Remote or iPeng also do not work. If I turn HTTP proxy back to "off" both things connect right away. What is even stranger is that on the iPad 3, it works whether the proxy is set to auto or off. I don't know if that is a hardware issue with a newer wifi adoptor in the iPad, or it is software, but I don't think I would even bother asking Apple about it.

    Tried this months ago.

Like everything it's only a temporary fix and soon breaks.
