iOS 6 iPhone 4s battery drain

Did an OTA update to iOS 6, and my iPhone 4s is draining quite quickly almost a percent every three minutes

Only apps running are Settings, Messages, Phone, and Mail, and Location Servces are on for Google, Maps, Nearby, Reminders, Safari, Siri, weather, and YP Mobile (sames as before the iOS 6 update) All apps are up to date, and restarted the phone twice. On local WiFi, with AT&T cellular service, four bars.

Phone would get warm at times as well.

Maybe it's an anomaly, else, lets see if this post grows...

For some of us Exchange isn't the issue, I don't use it.

I had my phone updated by Genius and it still drained afterwards. I have crippled my phone and it still drains. Hopefully an update will come that will correct whatever is draining the battery.

I think many people would be happy to just be told that "yes, Apple is aware that some people are experiencing extreme battery drain and we are looking into the issue."

It is crazy to jump through all of the suggestions on this post and others. There are enough of us who have seen this, who have gone to the Apple Store and have been told yes, something is wrong. Where are the replies from the Appl techs with some real answers? (I haven't read through all 136 pages yet)

Being told to upgrade the phone to a new one to correct the issue is unacceptable

Having to jump thorough hoops 'trying' to find the magic bullet that corrects the issue is crazy.

Hey Apple, swap my phone out and test mine and trouble shoot it, you will see there is an issue.

Upgrades have glitches - that is understood by us. Things happen. But, acknowledge the issue and let us know you are working on it. Don't force me to buy the competitors phone. I like yours, that is why I bought it.

What about letting us do a backout? Is it really that bad to let us stay on an older OS?

I for one am tired of charging my phone everywhere I am and I am not even using it. My phone always has a charger attached to it, so much for portable...

I installed iOS6.1.1 and my battery started draining extremely fast - from 100% to 14% in 4 hours. When charging the phone, it started overheating. I did not have these issues with iOS 6.1.

Then, I decided to turn off, all notifications, icloud back-up, push mail, location services, siri, photo share, etc...and nothing really changed. I read a few posts on blogs online and I decided simply turn off and then back on the Calendars and Reminders Sync on Microsoft Exchange. Most people say that this helps. My phone is fully charged now (100%). I will wait and see how fast the battery is draining. If this doesn't help, I will back-up, restore, and manually add exchange mail on my Iphone 4s

Staff in Apple stores are completely cluless and started giving me tips for better battery performance, which is ridiculous, since the tips prohibit the usage of most of the features that are the reason my company purchased iPhones 4,4s and 5 for all of the employees. My iPhone 4s is basicallly useless now.

Apple, please acknowledge the problem and help.

My 4s battery began draining the day the iPhone 5 and the new ios were released - WITHOUT CHANGING ANY SETTINGS AND WITHOUT UPDATING. After my beloved iPad 1 was rendered useless, I had resolved not to pounce on new releases. But my battery was suddenly draining so fast, I was afraid of being stranded somewhere with no service so I reluctantly updated. It did not fix it. However, my battery life slowly began to improve - never to what it once was. I waited again with 6.1. Did not notice any mysterious behavior as I had WITHOUT UPDATING so I updated on Monday. All was well - battery NOT AS GOOD AS BEFORE but not as bad either. Tuesday I discover 6.1.1 - I went for it. BATTERY DRAINING AGAIN! This is so not fun! I was shocked and dismayed when this problem began several months ago. I am now sick and disgusted.

hello guys, i still have my battery draining problem.

as i'm not a apple tech professional i'm scared about doing a complete reset as new as i'm not that clever in recover all my data without using the back up and i don't want to loose a comma of all my stuff i have in my phone because i pay for a phone that should have a battery that works even after one year.

as i've been adviced to not use the back up after the reset to not keep the problems i had before, i'm quite worried even to reset it. so i don't know what to do.

at these point i have a couple of questions:

- why a telephone that cost a fortune need to be used like this?

- why i bought an iphone 4s (or an iphone 5 - as i know people that are experiencing the same issue with a brand new phone) and after one year (or even earlier) i have to use it as a 1999 gsm nokia cell phone turning off all the options and using it only for (quick) calls to make the battery last more or less until evening?

but the worst thing is that when i bought it it was ok, it's since the update to os 6.x that everything became worst (i would not even think that it's also when the new iphone 5 came out as i have no evidences).

up to me this is unrespectful for all the apple users and fans. i experienced these problem also with my 1yr old macbook pro when mountain lion came out and thanks god now the battery draining suddenly recovered, i didn't do any procedure and it fixed. at this point as i believe in god, the only solution is so i pray for my iphone to recover as lazarus restored to life.

thank you all for any suggestions (and sorry for my stumbling english)

🙂

Hello,

I am currently an owner of an Ipod Touch 4th generation. I see you are having problems with your Ipod Touch/Ipad/Iphone/Ipod Classic, so I will try to find a solution to your problem.🙂

This is what I did (Sbailey4 suggested, and it worked!):

  1. Update to IOS 6.0.1 (or any IOS update)
  2. Reset all Settings: GENERAL>RESET>RESET ALL SETTINGS (The IOS update needs factory default settings)
  3. Let the battery completely drain (use it until it shuts off automatically)
  4. Plug in to charge
  5. Leave it charging 1.5 hours or longer after 100%, undisturbed (perferbly overnight when it wont be touched)
  6. Give it a few days to calibrate

Hope that helps!

If none of the above solutions work, can you please respond back ASAP as I will try to find another solution to your problem (This might even help others with the same problem!)

Cheers!
